Cool. Grey Fox, a.k.a.: The (first) Cyber Ninja is an assist trophy!

So apparently third party characters can be used as assist trophies. That means we could very easily get Robotnik, Tails, or Knuckles...

Tails would be cool. He could hover in place around the edges and catch people.

Today's update is the Norfair stage, one of the cruelest stages in the game.

Yesterday's update (Thursday, November 8, 2007) seems to have deconfirmed Ness as a playable character with the wording "There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar."

It seems biased towards people with charge moves. Consider Samus or Mewtwo's charge shots; just fire one into the open capsule. You just KNOW everyone's going to be scrambling for the doorway, so you have a guaranteed hit.

Better yet, get inside the capsule. Fire a charge beam at the exit.

I'm curious if more than one person can get inside the capsule. Can they beat each other up inside?

Dodge move.

Also, remember why the capsule is there in the first place. With a wall of lava rushing at you, you won't have much time to charge.

Everybody can do that with a Smash attack, too.

We can only hope.

Wow, but have the updates this week sucked.

Metaknight's music was added today, on a lighter note.

Although I have to admit, today's was a bit of a doozy.

I mean, gambling on fights in watch mode? I bet(no pun intended... for once) somebody's probably going to raise a stink about that somewhere.

Okay, three updates this week so far.

Training mode has been confirmed to return. Some new iterms were sighted in the screenshots, namely a soccer ball.

The Ice Climbers' Final Smash is called Iceberg, where a block of ice encompasses the entire stage, blocking off platforms, making things slippery for all but the Ice Climbers, and freezing other characters.

The Smart Bomb from StarFox is confirmed, creating a stage-covering explosion. Sometimes, it (and the Pokemon Electrode) will be duds, however.

The smart bomb explodes pretty slowly, though, I've seen people use it at E for All.

Well, the Smart Bomb was relatively slow in the first Starfox, at least.

Yesterday was Training Mode, and today was a note about character colors. Each character has six, and they added some to the older characters, like Dark/Shadow Link, and Fire Flower colors for Mario. Pikachu's "Green" color is now the headband of the Male hero from Pokemon Emerald, one of Samus's colors is the color and pattern of the Fusion Suit(it's still her old Varia, though. Pity.), and Snake of course gets some of the Snake Eater camos.

Today's update was Saki Amamiya as an assist trophy, the main character from Sin & Punishment: Succesor to the Earth.

Two updates today to close off the week:

Charged Special Moves, a how-to essentialyl describing things like Samus's Power Beam and Link's Bow.

The second was Lucas's Final Smash, PK Starstorm. He summons meteors from the top of the stage to rain down upon the area, increasing in intesnity as the FS continues.

Today's update was fairly interesting. It confirmed that you can transfer controls by the Wii remote to a friend's house, which had only been a possibility before.

Also, the update confirms that you can swing the Wii remote in the Nunchuk control scheme to do Smash Attacks.

More importantly it said that you can disable up-tap jumping, which is great for all those folks who have had a Non-smash up attack result in a jump into an attack.

Oh shit, really? Hell yes. I'm so glad--I've always played via the D-pad and I never got used to using the jump button, I just couldn't do it properly, so I really had sloppy character control because of the up-tap jumping. I always felt that was extremely poor control scheme design, and this had been one of many smash issues which they seem to be taking extremely seriously. It keeps getting better and better!

I've gone from really considering the previous games a really annoying and frustrating game to play seriously to really being excited about this one. I'd consider that a big change of perspective. Even the items look less retarded.

The new Donkey Kong retro theme sounds interesting, but too jumpy and scattered, the original tune is almost lost (not that there was much to it originally anyway). Does that mean there will be an old-style Donkey Kong stage, or will it just be alternate music to the stage we've been shown?

Also, yay on widescreen support, though we already knew that from E for All.

Incidentally, today's music update says that Hirokazu Tanaka is coming to the game, the man who has been heavily involved in Nintendo music and even inspired the character K.K. Slider.

The reason this is interesting is because, in most of the games he composed, he inserted a soundbit called "Tanaka's Song." You can here it in Animal Crossing and Pikmin 2, amongst others. Does this mean we'll be hearing that in Brawl?

Pretty good update today
Events

It’s the return of Events! This is a single-player mode in which you battle through predetermined situations.

This is the Events selection screen.

Oh! The pictures make it easy to understand.

And it has different difficulty settings!

For these, a harder setting is probably more exciting, but you can go ahead and set it however you like.

For example, you’ll find these kinds of situations:

Two Trouble Kings

Character: Mario

Bowser and King Dedede battle as a team!
And Mario stands alone against them.

Pink Ball Repulsion

Character: Meta Knight

Kirby must not be allowed on the Battleship Halberd!
Blast Kirby off before the platform lands on the Halberd!

Cleaning House in Skyworld

Character: Pit

Destroy all the terrain in Skyworld!
Wario both gets in the way and helps out?

Sleeping in the Eggs

Character: Yoshi

Using Yoshi’s Egg Lay standard special move,
put both enemies inside eggs simultaneously!

Dark Link Duel

Character: Link

It’s a fated battle with your own shadow.
This is a stamina based match.

High scores are recorded for each challenge at each difficulty level. You don’t just clear these challenges—competing for time will magnify the fun.

Enjoy Smash’s chance meetings between a variety of characters!

And now today's update, which makes me happy. Some Melee stages will be returning, just as some SSB stages were in Melee. The only one showcased was the Temple, as well as a remix of the theme for it.

Why do you salt my wounds so? Regardless, the Wii has been good to me, and this does give them a bit more time to announce some more characters, like Captain Goddamn Falcon. Srsly, why so late? Are they saving him for the release date? We all know he's in there, I just want to see his pretty face on the Characters section.

Discussion of Smash Ball mechanics today, two new points.

1. If someone losing badly respawns, they may have "smash mode" on, they just need to press B.

2. Smash Balls can be turned off in the item switch menu.

And a new music update, the Tunnel theme (or the main theme) from Japan-only Game Boy shooter X.
