Finally read the section...
Personally, I like the more action packed sections, of course, this type of pause is always nice...
Anyways very, very, very good!

It seems as if he's using the harpies as skirmishers, locating and pinning down enemy troops until his main line can crush them.
Don't you mean Beelzebub?
(Speaking of which, I seem to recall the best way to take him being to double-wield a +6 Grayswandir and a +6 silver sabre as a dwarven Valkyrie with gray dragon scale mail, a cloak of invisibility, an amulet of reflection, speed boots, and gauntlets of power... oh wait, that's Nethack, not Armageddon...)

Egads! Someone else who plays Nethack? And here I thought I was the only one. Let's sacrifice a unicorn on the hellgate and see what happens

I love that subtle flirting with the fourth wall.
Who is he. What is he.
He killed flowers just by walking into the room.
Not Human? One of the 'others' that Abigor mentioned?

Already explained, but he's from the TBO 'verse.

I think he's Stuart's doppleganger.

The fact that the choking clouds of hell aren't seeping through into Iraq makes me think there's some mechanism to prevent just that thing. It could be as simple as air molecules don't have enough mass for all I know.
There is actually some level of tranferrance going on but its limited (the portal doesn't have any physical effect like suction, its simple a hole that separates two spaces. So small amounts of hell-atmosphere are seeping into human space and vice versa but the amounts are so small they're stratistically inconsequential.
So the air pressure must be equal, despite the lower gravity of Hell.
And I have no intention of parading Uriel in a cage.
He seems dangerous enough that you'd want to kill him the instant you got a chance, although it was never made clear whether his power to cause instant death could be nullified by the simple expedient of wearing tinfoil hats.

This has probably already been asked before, but is there any chance that this story might eventually be published as a book?

He's mentioned a few times hes keeping a book formatted version of this for publication.

Given the fact that Stuart has published 3 other books, with a 4th that I'm currently editing in the chute, I would say there's a good chance.

It'll probably come out as a trilogy.
Running Title is "The Salvation War"
A - War With Hell
B - War With Heaven
C - Restoring Peace
The way this was written though makes things a little complex, there may be some legal matters to sort out first. In the meantime, why not go to Amazon and buy the first three TBO novels there.

As Chewie says, number Four - Crusade! is coming out shortly (by end of June).
By the way, I'll need some really good cover designs for the books and also people's help editing and proof-reading. Chewie does a great job of proof-reading and editing but it won't hurt to have other eyes at work.

Hmm.. editing and proofing in return for more sweet electronic crack - hardly even a choice. Where and when do you want me to start?
Looking through those amazon links, it does seem that, from the comments left, the editing of those three volumes was not quite what it could have been.

Hey hey now, don't you go taking away one of my favorite things to do. To be fair, I didn't edit the first one. Also, alot of peoples' objections to 'editing' are stylistic decisions Stuart made to maintain the flavor of the setting.
Lord knows there's plenty of edits I suggest that he ignores

First I just wanted to say that this is a really great story and if published I would buy a copy.
Second thing I wanted to bring up is something that's been bugging me.
we've established that heven and hell exist, and we've established that people of differing faiths wind up in hell. A Japanese Samurai and Spartan have very, very different belief systems but both wound up in hell.
Based on that we can argue that religion is bupkiss and and polytheist and monothestic relgions are really just smoke screens for the two baddies. We've also established that Demons share a common ancestor with humans, and I bet it will be discovered that Angels also share a common ancestor.
This brings me to a question: How did the human ancestor arrive in these widly differing locations? What was the mechanism for the transistion and how was it accomplished? There have also been hints of previous cullings in the past and some refrences have been made to alternate sources of worship/torture than just humans.
All this brings me to conclude that there is some kind of external force at work here. Who or what this force wants is a mystery but I hope it will be revealed in time.
BTW If heven and hell are real and they can possess people and give them visions then where does a person like H.P. Lovecraft fall? Where his writings the product of visions sent by Demons or Angels? Or is it possible that Cthulhu actually exists on yet another plane?
As if things wern't troubling enough you now have an enemy whose mere appearance causes madness, I wonder if that would affect people viewing Cthulhu remotely.

Cthulu ain't gonna happen. It would be infringing of Mr. Lovecraft's intellectual property to use his Cthulu stuff in Stuart's story, which is an irksome niggle, seeing as Stuart intends on publishing.

Isn't Cthulhu public domain by now? I'm not sure about copyright laws, but I know anything pre-1923 is considered public domain by US law.

I think I really noticed that one in TBO (yeah, you didn't edit it, but still) - I thought it really could have used some better editing, but then I realized TBO was not about showing compassion to Nazis, and grammar nazis were not about to be let off the hook either.

It's a sad statement on the preponderance of sloppy thinking and semi-illiteracy in this country when people with shitty grammar and spelling think that anyone who tries to correct them is a "Nazi".

I don't think you quite understand what a grammar nazi is. Quite often I'll catch mistakes that professional editors don't in the books I read, but all the same I don't let those mistakes spoil the book for me or go ranting on Amazon about how shitty the editing job was.

It's still a dilution on the horror that the nazis were to this world. Even today, they're a sore spot to many.

I'd certainly buy a copy, especially since it would be the first time that anything written by me would be published.
Stu, I presume that those of us who contributed would ge a mention in the foreword? I only ask because it would do my ego no end of good.

I would be more hopeful that there would be some collective acknowledgment for the forum, since the idea for the story came from here. Or more specifically, from here:

If you read through the whole thread and skip past some of the arguing about the direction the thread takes, you can see where the inspiration for the story comes from (Stuart actually declares his intentions about halfway through the thread), and some elements of the story are even foreshadowed.

Stu always gives an acknowledgement to both the board, in the past the guys at H, P & CA. He does also generally thank specific people.
I'm just big-headed enough to want to see my name in print.
