Do you mind if my in system naval forces locates your destroyer, the one outside of my system. and makes contact with it?
You can try :P
And be gentle about it, or else... *g*

Heh. Expect to find more "communication relay satellites" floating outside claimed Avalonian borders, those things are dirt-cheap and can be built & placed faster than anybody can locate & destroy them.

Given the volume of space you occupy, this could be a daunting task :)

Not really, only one every half-dozen lightyears or so would be needed.

I very much doubt you'll be able to disrupt any passive scans, especially given that you don't know any method to do so out there. Sounds like a cheap cop-out to me...

Passive scans being scans reliant on detection of naturally occuring energy emissions and/or patterns.

It would be just enough to be annoying to your "research station". However, I doubt it would stop any "magical probing", which sounds about as passive as a spotlight.

Oseng, does you planetary militia count as ground forces, planetary defenses, or some weird hybrid?

Posted: 2006-04-15 11:30pm

The planetary milita are planetary defenses.

They are citizen-soldiers like the US National Guard, except they cannot be deployed elsewhere.

There are also around 166 points of Ground Troops which I forgot to declare, I'm fixing that now. Sorry, hope this helps.

So is the official defense net the spaceborne stuff, and the militia the ground facilities?

In any case, its cool. Its really not like my one cruiser is going to land its marine complement to try to take over.

Contact me some time over AIM so we can do the negotiation without it taking three weeks of back and forth.

Damn, I'm gone for a few days and suddenly Crobuzon is the most popular guy on the block. It kind of got late for me, so I'll be replying to Thirdfain and Spyder tommorrow.

A short preview of my reply to Thirdfain:
-My ship appears not to have heard the signal
-Captain orders to have a reply sent as soon as there is a second hail
-The reply is a very basic, "We are..., who are you?"

Remember that the ship is approching the Iron Fleet proper, not your little freighter capture operation. It will also get within "a couple of light-seconds" of it in less than a minute.

FUCK! FÜCK FUCK FUCK!

I just accidently deleted a fucking FIVE PART POST while typing the last couple letters. FUCK ME. FUCK.

OK, I guess everyone gets a terse, un-informative response... Ass-shit.

A piece of advice, save after every paragraph. Do it for any document you ever write. Make it a habit, Ctrl+S after every single paragraph. You may notice that you can't do this in a forum, there are two workarounds. Use the preview feature, that way if you accidentally delete everything, you can press the "Back" button in your browser. Personally, I just write my posts in word documents and then Copy&Paste. I currently have a document in my desktop named STGOD, it exists for that purpose.

Remember: Save. After. Every. Single. Paragraph. No exeptions.

I usually type my posts in Word and then transfer em over, I was just too lazy this time around.

-edit- Fixed! All nice and posted, no.

That is why the "No exeptions" part of the rule is rather important.

I've done that a couple of times, now I'm deathly paranoid about losing long posts.

Adrian has kindly pointed out that my ultimatum doesn't make sense- cutting engines and slowing speed are mutually exclusive actions, as the ship would need it's engines on to counterthrust. I'll edit my post immediately, and thanks for the short reminder about newtonian physics.

err, don't your ships use an exotic drive system?

Posted: 2006-04-17 06:40pm
by Thirdfain
Nope, they use chemical rocket engines. Sort of like the Saturn V.

A quick request to the mods: Could we sticky links to the Diplomacy thread, OOBs, OOC, and Game thread in the forum STGOD sticky? This is a major STGOD, and deserves to be up there.

And now, size comparison between the two cruisers I've been able to use so far:

Image

Spiffy! The Tarmuth is a light, fast, multipurpose patrol and escort cruiser, while the Bered Kai Nev is a battlefleet auxiliary, having a shorter cruising range and slower engines, but significantly better armament and armour.

Keep in mind that most of the images posted so far aren't to scale with one another, while these are. I'm going to try to keep it consistent within the size classes from now on.

I take exception to "No exeptions"!

Enough of this dilly-dallying. Time to light some shit up.

Dammit! You were supposed to dilly-dally more!

My fleets aren't even there yet. Parties are funner when there are more people involved.

At least the time-scale of things is kind of undefined. Your "ten minutes" could stretch into a (real world) week while I work things out with the Flame.

Speaking of things that are streatched, do you have aim or irc so we can work out that negotiation and get it done in one post?

Unlikely. Recall, you just posted it would take upwards of a day just to get this through the legislature. My fleet will have arrived at it's target(s?) well within 24 hours.

Stormin, sorry about that, I seem to have missed you in the mess of posts which came my way. I am free to contact on AIM at almost any time, but I gotta take care of my young lady right now, and won't be available until around 1-2 am EST.

Actually that was directed at A L and it's been sorted out. I posted it so it wouldn't get lost in any possible PM clutter.

Edit:

Feel free to deal with the diem waiting outside your space anytime. I am not in a rush.

It already got through the Legislature.

I was talking about how this STGOD has no definite time-keeping system. Spyder said it himself, "Empires could rise and fall over the course of an evening meal between diplomatic parties." Things happen and are later put in the sequencial order that makes the most sense.

Empire A goes to war with Empire B. During the same time as the War happens, an Emp A diplomat has a nice chat with some dudes from Empire C. Then the A diplomat gets word of a major battle. In the sequence shown in the posts, it would seem that the A-C diplomatic talks started before the A-B war. However, that would make no sense because the talks ended after this Big Battle. So therefore the real sequence of events is: 1) War starts, 2) Big battle begins, 3) Diplomatic talks start, 4) Big battle ends, 5) News arrive as diplomatic talks are winding-up.

The same thing could apply here. Any talks between the Silver Flame and Mekidar can be said to have happened before the Grossadmiral gave the order to attack.

Things would go much faster if I could get ahold of Spyder through AIM. I actually did so today at ~8am my time, but today is Sunday. The rest of the week I'm in school during that time-period. Actually, me being awake before mid-day on a Sunday or Saturday is rather unusual.
