But the DC core is also considerably larger. Commonwealth vessels can often fit 2-3 banks of reactors, without comprimising other ship criticals. The EM Fusion core is compact, which is what you want for a military craft.
We beg to differ. Due to the amazing ability to extract a much higher amount of energy per unit mass from the fuel, we are able to make significantly smaller core than a mere fusion reactor. And please note that the DC core is used for powering everything from missiles to dreadnoughts.

Completely ignore the Task Force that is extremely close by, and by alrights should be going back in roughly the same direction, and so are effectively escorting the salvage fleet, and I know NOTHING?!? And not only that, but I use a completely different FTL drive than you, which causes no small problem in actually hurting me while traveling.
You can probably figure out what happened pretty quick. Come on; we're pirates, with a vastly superior force, in an ambush. There was a fucking battleship in there; are your salvage conveys that well protected now? One of the three battleships I have; making them pretty nasty fuckers.
Vastly superior? Then you just wiped out a good 5% of my combat fleet! 3 TFs / fleet. 6 fleets. (7th is mostly frigates and destroyers, which have massively less firepower.)
1/3rd my Battleships, 1/10th my cruisers. I'd call that vastly superior.
And I'm supposed to not notice you inside my territory, with a battleship?
I'm sorry, are pirates expected to broadcast their energy signature bright and clear?
The salvage convoy was being escorted by the Task Force for the very good reason that there isn't much of a reason to keep the Task Force out on the border, when it would be better served staying closer to my core worlds, helping to deter an invasion attempt.
The salvage fleet efficently swept all traces of the battle from the area, to be taken to Fleet R&D, where the TSC tech would be analyzed to help search for weaknesses.
I see nothing stating their being escorted. Was I supposed to use telepathy? Nothing stated your ships would be moving along the same route.
And the constant ansible connection works through dimensions see ASVS STGOD1 where the NR, NRMD, and the TE all used ansibles across dimensions. The only way you could have gotten rid of the ansibles all before I got a good enough reading would have been to vaporize the entire convoy, before anyone could react.
Not vaporize, ionize. You know, those things that stud my battleships.
I want to get a point across here, Beowulf. You, without expending any notable resources, bombed a major capital without retribution. Expending a good chunk of my heavy vessels, I smash&grab some ships carrying cargo, with likely retribution later. You argue for the first hard, you argue against the second hard. Seeing the double-standard?

"We're going to stay here until they leave"
Sure sounds like they're going to be leaving, and since they're leaving, why not go along the same route? And while pirates aren't typically extremely overt, they also usually prey on my helpless vessels, you know, the ones that are travelling between nations? The reason? Patrols usually find them if they try pirating inside of large nations!
And knocking the ansibles off line would reuire going through the shields, of which there are multiple layers, and which would immediately alert the PRC to something really wrong going on.
As to the bombing of Desjardins, I was only half expecting it to work. And it was a oneshot deal. I could very well use bombs of that size again, but would I expect to succeed? Not if I tried doing anything remotely similar. Thirdfain could have stopped it, if he wished to(remember the meter reader?). And the point was that it was covert. As it stands, while I did some damage, I didn't decapitate his government, and he's functioning perfectly well. His combat abilities weren't harmed in the least.
I"m mostly complaining about you doing the piracy inside my territory, and this I detect almost nothing crap. Outside, I'd understand. And why the hell would Ion cannons have the same effects on every single type of shielding in existance?

About that meter reader- there was no reasonable way what he saw could have translated into a timely bust on your operation.
Besides, it makes for good story. Keep that in mind, Beowulf.

You detected something. A bigass energy flash, that, if you stopped and thought, has been present every time the Alliance launches an ambush. I was assuming you're intel people would have the brainpower to put that one together.
Yes, small time pirates pirate outside national borders for that reason. When a group of pirates has ships of the line, they can afford to go for the more juicy targets by using overwhelming force.
As for the whining about ion cannons working the same on everything, it's called 'fairness', or 'a level playing field'. That thing I'm here to ensure happens. Then again, from someone who keeps claiming Endertech in a SW-level game, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised..

Gee, maybe that's why the title on that territory is missing.

Could I get the Free Star Alliance and Independent Worlds Federation added to the map? They're important to the UTRs strategic posture.

So Nitram, you're basically saying that your can strike at any merchant shipping with impunity, because quite obviously we can't possibly manage to protect our convoys with an adequete defense, while at the same time, seeing as you're both pirates, and have no known bases, it's impossible to effectively strike back at you. Nice.

Well, actually, he does have known bases, and an empire you can strike back at. Fancy joining the Grand Alliance and hunting the Pirate scum down?

Grand Alliance? P-shaw. Not after you showed how easily you'd stab a supposed ally in the back.
Hmm... time to start an anti-piracy alliance...
Anybody interested?

We're always interested in keeping piracy at bay, especially in the new territories...

Actually, I'd never stab an ally in the back. What with New Bushido and all, it would be very out of character.
Thank GOD I never signed a single treaty with the Azegart!

Ah, so he went all the way across the galaxy to capture a few of my ships. That makes so much sense.

I have always sort of asusmed thqat the majority of hte Black Alliance's fleet power is spread across the galaxy on varied and sundry piracy expeditions, returning only occaisionally to the home systems. This would suggest lightly defended core worlds.

My bases are incredibly well known. We live in the far-reaches of Western space, at such a range that any massed attack and subsequent campaign would be incredibly difficult to maintain. Of course, the majority of fleet maintenence and supply is done aboard mobile Tenders called Long Haul's for hte incredibly obvious reason that they literally tow entire fleets across tens of thousands of lightyears at SW-Hyperdrive speeds(Warships are much, much slower).
Basically, a pirate nation formed so far from civilization because it's the only place it could conceivably form and not be immediately crushed.

Pretty much. Two Long Hauls are constantly on call to move ships around their territory, and one Psychopath and the Mixmaster make up the heavy guns. Of course, given the firepower a Psychopath and a GSV wield, that tends to be enough for repelling initial thrusts.

Piracy is his modus operandi. The ships involved in this game can travel across the galaxy in a matter of hours and a minor expenditure of fuel. He doesn't like you.
What's so surprising here?

There are very few people who the BA won't touch. One of them is the Kzinti; it's called survival instinct. You simply had a truly massive amount of material moving around; I hit it with the biggest in the region.
