Good to know everything is back.

I still can't access the normal forums; the low-bandwidth thing is all that seems to work.

Oh good. All is well with the world again.
Thanks Mike. We all appreciate the hard work you invest in making the board run well.

Ditto. Seems like no-one else has either, judging by the post dates in recent threads...
that would seem quite likely.
given I couldn't access them yesterday after 8pm either.

OK folks, I have built myself a new PC and I've found that I cannot get signed in at all. The new machine is a 64-bit machine running Windows Vista Home Premium, which I assume is the problem here. When I try to login the screen just refreshes and I try to login again. It refreshes, then I login again. it refreshes......
I can log in just fine on any non-Vista PC, it's just the Vista one which refuses to budge from the login screen and keep my username and password.

We've been having problems with stale cookies. Try clearing your SDN cookies and try again.

Well done that Ape, deleted the cookie and its working now. Of course it took me 15 minutes to discover where Vista keeps its cookies and how to see them, but thats another matter.

For the past 2 days I\'ve been completely unable to access the forums at all. Including the secured and the low bandwidth versions. I can access the rest of the sites fine, though. I already tried the basics, clearing out the temporary internet files, cookies, and history all to no avail. I even tried a different browser and I still get the same \"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage\". Finally I tried using a proxy and it worked, but I still cannot gain access without using it. What else can I try?

Same here, But the strange thing is that I could get on at my grandmothers house in Portland, but not here in Washington, or at a friends house also in Portland. My grandmother has dial-up, and both me and my friend have Comcast.

That's the reason then, because I have Comcast too.

I could not get on at all last night. I pinged the address and there were no replies. Maybe it was down?

This is day number 4 and I still can't get on without using a proxy. So maybe it was down for a bit last night, but that doesn't appear to have anything to do with the situation Comcast customers have been having.

This may be useless, but have you tried editing your host file? When MSNBC was down for me a month or so ago, I edited my host file and I was able to access the site.

How do you go about doing that?

Open notepad. Then go to the following directory:
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
You will see a file named "host". Drag it into notepad.
Type in the following:
206.210.96.180 *tab key* bbs.stardestroyer.net

Nope, didn't work. Appreciate it, though.

I think the hosts file in Windows is actually called "lmhosts" and it's stored in the main Windows directory.
PS. Comcast clearly sucks.

It sure does. Hard. But they're the only game in town and the only way I can afford high speed internet.
EDIT:
I just can't figure out why it's only happening on this board while allowing me access to the rest of the sites. I was hoping that a spammer or something got IP banned and maybe it was accidentally blocking Comcast users. Now I don't know what the fuck to think. I'm out of my element with this networking shit anyway. But I have a workaround, and even though it's annoying as hell, I can live with it for now.
