Why would the Draconis BDZ? Theyt wouldn't even bomb urban centers, and that cost them huge numbers of lives. they won't BDZ just for vengeance's sake!

Besides, your press release was pretty wishy-washy and inconclusive. It attacked the Etern more than it supported the Draconis.

Speak softly and carry a big stick. I said I would honor my treaty obligations. That's all I needed to say.

I've never found speaking softly to be a wise move in situations when one intends on using said stick...

Hudson took place before the STGOD even began. How do you know who was or wasn't warning anyone else? Besides, we didn't have the proper facilities to go about warning people at the time, and had to procure some hypercomms first.

Every other Hajr military act has been presaged by public announcements of intent.

Alyrium Denryle wrote:Actually, we will never sign the treaty, and if we get invaded, you can be sure we probably wont leave much standing on their world as we pull out. Not only will it be a fighting retreat, but they have such terrible damage to their infastructure that come winter, they will all die(at least in their colder areas in temperate zones)
Unless, of course, they are co-belligerents against the Draconis together with various other nations. Then they can probably expect significant aid from their new friends.

Ah, excellent. Now maybe we can stop having this MASSIVE CONFLICT OF INTEREST that we're having with Straha running the pirates...

Is Marcao playing them or is Straha still controlling them?

Let me get this straight. You're giving warships to known pirates in exchange for a base right smack in the center of the largest concentration of the UPA nations? That dog ain't gonna hunt.

I'm offering warships to a legitimate government that's under seige by a bunch thugs. It all depends on the spin.

And yes, I know that's in the Alliance space. Strategic basing after all.

That's not all that terribly strategic; if it did ever come to war between the Alliance and the Asgard, that base would be the very first thing to go. Being close is one thing. Being surrounded is something else.

Depends on how much I put into the defenses. After all, look at places like Gibraltar or Malta. You can hold out if you've got the will.

But then that diverts units you could best be using elsewhere. And if he fortifies the system enough he might be able to make sure you send whole fleets worth of units in there, thus giving him a far upper hand in numbers.

I doubt he's going to have the time or ability to mirror Pinnacle on a world that doesn't even belong to him. He asked for basing rights, not ownership of the planet.

Actually, I plan on fortifying the place real good. Of course that assumes Alyrium choses the smart route and pulls back. If not it's a war and I get the base after the dust settles. I hope it's the former to be honest, much clearner.

Oh, I almost forgot. Now that I have my computer back online, I have mapped out my territory and need someone to host the pic. I'm converting the maps to jpegs now.

Why would they let you occupy when they could get the Draconis to pull out and fix most of the vital stuff that was destroyed and have no foreigners on their planet? (And yes, fortifying the world that much would require massive military presence, enough to be tantamount to occupation.)

A point about fleet counts that recently caught my attention--

Firstly, I want to make sure everyone is aware that at the very beginning of the game I declared a Vampire fleet which was around half of the maximum size, and according to the rules decided at the time that means that they are rather kickass in comparison to the more numerous vessels of other nations.

Secondly, I want to talk about the fleet counts of second-chance and recently entered nations. The Minmatar Fleet is appropriately proportioned for a state just recovering from severe decline, but I'm curious about what we agreed to in particular concerning Alyrium's reentry as the Draconis--what size of fleet was he granted?

Because Alyriums apparently would rather nuke them into oblivion? They've got a good reason to want ships and a bit of protection.

It depends, and it's basing in-system not necessarily on New Tortuga. I generally put military bases on relatively uninhabited worlds to begin with.

Three quarters, I think.
