So, did they confirm if Falco is in the game yet?

No word, but I'd imagine the answer is no.

New "Iwata Asks" out with Sakurai, and featuring secret 3rd-party dev!

What the fuck is a Lucario? I followed the link, but why the hell would anyone want to play some sort of demented post-modern artistic version of a squishy odd-colored dog person thing?

Also, got my preorder in!
Sheik, even without wavedash, is one of those blindingly fast hard-hitting monsters that you absolutely hate to play against, especially if you want to be someone less retarded and more fun like Bowser or Jigglypuff or something. The less we had of the insanely quick characters obsoleting normal ones (especially when speed is not only a great value in combat, especially as the damage ratings go up, but where it comes to grabbing items and smash balls) the better, and plus, this is a combo character that is not only a ranged evasion/magic user but also a speed machine melee character. It's really a poorly thought out combination. They would have been much more fair as seperate characters.

Wacky. So it punches and is fast? Did it play a big part in some pokemon movie or something? I don't watch/read/play any of the media, but I know about the 'normal' pokemans from other games.

A talking one appears in one of the more recent movies, as a fairly important character.

If I recall, Lucario is actually a very popular Pokemon among Japanese players right now, so in that regard his inclusion makes sense.

Naw, Sheik's a great opponent. Rather, the slower characters (Bowser, Donkey Kong) need to be improved. The veteran smash fighters at E for All who tried Bowser said he had been improved significantly, and Dedede looks to be the first heavy character with really good recovery.

The problem with Smash Bros is that the heavyweights are very, very poor compared to the fast characters (Marth, Sheik, Falco).

Personally, I'm a Peach player, with Marth and Sheik as secondary.

It played some major role in a movie and is extremely popular among pokemon fans. I've seen Lucario for Brawl petitions all over the place. Never saw the movies though.

Wierd. Well, I won't whine about it, it's their game and I actually do appreciate being introduced to new characters from games I've never played (Pikmin, for example) and they've bought a lot of tolerance from me by including Snake. Sadly, including Sonic and Sheik is pushing me to the edge... but I'm going to hold on to hope!

As for Shiek/Marth/Fox and the other fast guys, I suppose my perspective is a bit skewed, but when you play a 'heavy' character like Bowser as your primary dude (I played him for as long as I could take the beatings) it's really a different experience fighting someone 'moderate' like a Yoshi or a Mario and someone fast like a Marth or a Sheik. That's only my opinion though--I'm rating 'fairness' from the low end of the spectrum, so it's obvious that they're right out and off it.

I wouldn't want them to 'nerf' Sheik though, just rebalance them all, as they're doing. Speed is such a big advantage though, since it covers a lot more than moving around. Speed helps attack, defense, evasion, edge-guarding and item-hogging. If the big fatasses (go fuckin' Dedede! Mah man!) can get their act together and give the little shrimpy dudes a run for their money in the slugging department, then I think their evasion is fair. Problem mostly was, as you stated, there was no real 'fear' of getting up in Bowswer's grill. He can beat your ass if you're unlucky, but goddamn Jigglypuff was a lot easier to fistfight with, and that's kinda stupid. :D

At least it seems like all is as it should be. I still wish Sheik had been seperated from Zelda though. Hopefully they'll each be about half a character, not two awesome characters put together. That's only fair, right?

New Stage: The Mushroomy Kingdom - An autoscrolling stage that's basically World 1-1... But occasionally gives you World 1-2 instead.

Well, Sonic ought to completely wipe the floor with Sheik at least :)

Because he's a clone of Fox, and they specifically wanted to avoid clones this game.

Haha, I would hope so, at least in speed. I really hope that Sheik is a good addition to Zelda rather than a 'replacement' one. I almost never saw people use Zelda, except as a fireball artillery platform on occasion before turning back into the ninja form and going apeshit on my face. Or something.

I hope Falco and Captain Falcon do get back in though. Falco could easily be made a non-clone, if they wanted to, and not having Captain Falcon would be a travesty!

TBH Zelda handles very much like Peach. Peach requires excessive practice to be able to use, and Zelda is very similar- but with practice both can be ridiculously powerful. Zelda's a heavy hitter.

Trust me, I've run afoul of Peach and Zelda many times. That's partially why I'm against her transformative abilities. Instead of having to choose between, perhaps, 'modes' of play the way a Kirby player does on the fly with absorbing characters' abilities, a Zelda or Sheik player can--after a given level of strategy--flip effortlessly between two very different sorts of hard-hitting kickass characters. By themselves, both Zelda and Sheik would be pretty badass. By combining them you really muddy the waters more, and throw too much firepower into one combatant's corner. I played Gen in Street Fighter for this reason, I could swap between "Heavy Melee" and "Area Denial" stances on the fly and it made for a very potent combo. It's also a lot of fun, but it's a bit unfair. It's not like Sheik is hard to use.

Anyway, I understand and respect Sheik players' reasons for using her. As a Bowser/Jigglypuff player myself, I prefer to choose my characters based on how hilarious I think they are (and then try to make them work well) rather than what actually works. Obviously, when "play for odd" and "play to win" come head to head, I'm often aggrivated that Bowser sucks the balls, but I have learned how to out-fistfight a Sheik with fuckin' Jigglypuff. I originally played Puff as an insult character, like Dan. I didn't realize it was also pretty tough.

Todays update is a minute and a half of gameplay over wifi from Kyoto to Tokyo. What it does reveal though is that Samus remains out of armor after her Final Smash even if she is thrown out.

I think we knew that one, though. The only way she gets it back is if she uses her own final smash.

Okay, I think I got the gist of today's update.

Basically, Brawl comes with demo versions of some of the games it's cast comes from. From Ice Climbers and The Legend of Zelda to Super Metroid and StarFox 64.

I wonder if they'll have Sonic the Hedgehog and Metal Gear in there, then.

Probably not; notice that all of the featured demos are Nintendo-published games.* To include stuff like Sonic and Metal Gear, they'd probably have to negotiate additional deals with Sega and Konami.

*Notice that the demos are all for games that have already been released on the VC as well.
