It's been almost 24 hours since the turn was churned, and over half the players have submitted the new turn. I think you're just going to have to live with the bug, Neph. I had a movement bug freeze my colony ships in place in one of my home systems for 2 turns, so you're not the only one that's been affected.

Just a warning.
In one of my other PBW games, we all couldn't move ships for 4 turns. We e-mailed the save to Malfador, and he replied back that it was a bug with deconstruct/anylize. So don't deconstruct/anylize (Damn it, how do you spell anylize?) It will be fixed in the next patch, but for now, just don't do it.

Do you mean that if one person Analyzes everybody can't move, or anybody that analyzes can't move?

Damn, sorry for not coming online last night, I just got tired and decided to throw my laptop in the recycling bin overnight for the good of the country. Then I fetched it realizing how much I spent on the thing. Doing my turn in the next hour or so.
So you got the colonizer bug too Tuxedo? IB, did you manage to load the cargo finally? Looks like we got our own list of nasty bugs that Malfador doesn't know anything about. I think we should keep track of the bugs, not just for our own sanity, but so at the 11th hour before a release of a patch we can e-mail them with the bugs and get fixes.
As long as there's no game killing bug, I can live with it.
Analyze.

Nobody can move.
Just don't do it untill the next patch:
They released a changelog last week and it says that it should be fixed via next patch.

Talk about unintended consequences. How are the game mechanics for analysis and movement of everybody even linked?

Anything you're not telling us dude?
Also, is the Vulcan offer for an Alliance? I've heard they're not working properly.

by brianeyci
Yes. Top secret stuff

.
The Vulcan offer is this. As long as your treaty with the Federation has the element do not bombard planets, I'll pay you 5000 minerals a turn. That's it. Doesn't matter who you're fighting, even if you're fighting the Federation the offer will be up indefinitely. It's not a lot of money until you think of what 13x5k is. If you have do not bombard planets up with the Federation, the game stops you from bombarding any planets at all. At least that's how it's supposed to work.
Too bad about alliances. I was thinking of making the New New Alliance of Free Stars.

You know, I've gotten used to most aspects of SE V's interface, and find it more or less as usable as SE IV's, but the map absolutely sucks. In SE IV I could tell more or less by glancing who owned which system. In this game I'm completely lost, so I think we need to compile a map with people's home systems and colony systems and edit it into the first post.

On the bottom left corner press the button on the far right of the row of buttons on top of the minimap. That opens up an expanded system view.
Then press N, to turn on the names.
The main problem is some of the names overlap, so it's a real pain in the ass to see them. But you can turn on names for system view and the expanded map too.
What's good is in the diplomacy screen, there's a little minimap to the top right. It was always a pain in the ass writing down system names to send off in messages, but now you can see the entire galaxy (you have to squint but you can still see it.)
I'm still up for a uber map if people want to do it. Problem is when people see how huge the Federation is, they'll shit their pants

.

So... was the turn due to be generated half an hour ago...? With three players not uploaded? Or, am I missing some vital piece of information? Like... an accurate calender, or something.

Deadline was half an hour ago, in fact less than half an hour ago. Turns take time to process, Tuxedo isn't a number cruncher.
But yeah, for the three people who missed, too bad. Hardass all the way. We've had one problem or another every single turn the entire game, and if we stopped for every missed turn or problem we wouldn't get any turns done at all.
Again I'm going to say: people who miss turns, make sure to check PBW after you upload with e-mail. In fact I would go as far as to say fuck e-mail, it's not reliable enough. Opening a web browser and going to the upload screen takes 5 minutes.

I was thinking we should hold off on the big map until the colonies are pretty much established. If we do it now, everyone will know which systems are uncolonized and make a beeline.
We could still do home systems and defended warp points to avoid unncessary bloodshed, though.

by brianeyci
Unnecessary bloodshed can be avoided by setting defense ships to not target unarmed vessels in the strategy section.
But the main problem is whether PD guns are considered as weapons, and planetary bombs. Once an open state of war starts, not target unarmed ships is foolish.
It depends what policy certain empires have. In the east I understand everything's cramped, so there's almost an open-door policy expected. In the west, people are declaring unilaterally do not approach or we'll shoot you down, and not just home systems either but vast swaths of territory.
The Federation will probably be a hybrid, but it depends. Anybody interested in renting planets should contact me. Be warned, the price won't be cheap, but it'll be fair. Rogue colonies discovered by the Federation won't be bombarded, but will likely result in a diplomatic crisis. I could of course avoid all that by just shooting everything coming through warp points, but that didn't sound very Federation. Land if you want, but if you're in a Federation system expect consequences.

Hey Guys, I got an update for Hiigarans.
Shipset 2.0
This fixes the firing arcs and and make them themely. Dreads fire from turret arcs, as to other ships when possible. I also decreased coverage to make it more themely, which can also be seen as a nerf, but a tiny tiny one. The ship can rotate afterall.
You don't need to use it, but it'll make things display better if you ever watch a fight of mine, or want to play solo with them.

Brian, did you deliberately invade me? I'm not bitching if you did, mind you, but seeing as how it's pretty damned early for a war and the game's been pretty buggy, I thought I'd seek confirmation before declaring eternal hostility for the Federation in the RP.

Shoot. I missed the last turn by 5 minnuets.
Guess thats what I get for going catfishing...

No, it wasn't a mistake. Yes, I had to set the colonizer to capture planet for it to drop, and yes it started 1 square away, so people who are thinking of shooting down troop transports before they get to a planet should be aware that a lone troop transport could start out right beside a planet. Bullshit, but that's the licks. I'm not sure if the game starts out the planet and colonizer far away if the planet's armed... pretty sure it does because one of Trog's colonizers tried to approach one of my planets and didn't start out 1 square away to be shot down. I would still build weapons platforms for planet defense, if only because they rock versus troops. The one square away bug probably doesn't happen if the planet's armed.
Holy shit Arthur, 250k resources? Remote mining eh.

Quick response given!
Anyway, I'm getting a little pissed off. I have been checking the PBW website frequently to make sure I get the turn, since it isn't getting emailed regularly. I only downloaded it last night. And I get home from work and it's already been skipped?

There's a Javascript utility that allows you to watch it and make sure you know when people are finishing. It's quite handy! I forget where you get it but I could look around. It shows who has turned their stuff in, and once about half do, it's usually a good idea. I encourage our slowpokes to get it, as it will really help you remember and also speed us up.
I also sent you a reply!

So uh, I have a question - What sort of treaty elements would prevent me from colonizing a system?
I've got treaties of non-agression, trade, communication, system maps, and similar so... what the hell?
Posted: 2007-06-09 01:21am
by brianeyci
Yeah I was fucked by that too.
Non-agression. Apparently colonizing a system is considered aggression, if another person owns it. Owning it means getting there first and planting your flag. And it kind of makes sense, since once you land you can shit out weapons platforms, mines, fighters, and it's hard to beat that kind of defense early on.
I think if you have non-aggression in non-colony systems, or allow colonization in all systems, it will let you colonize. But I'm not sure. Definitely it doesn't let me colonize if I have non-aggression in all systems. But allow colonization in all systems should work for sure. It opens the doors for fucks to rush you though so I wouldn't do it for everybody.

So... how can I fix this without breaking my treaties? (Note that this system is not contested, its neutral (X means contested right? and the circle is neutral/mine, right..?))
