Japanese characters do not show up and are simply not there. I don't know if this is a problem of encoding or somthing else. Any ideas of what this could be? My computer has Japanese support and still...

phpBB2 uses the Latin-1 character set; unsurprising as it dates from 2001 and PHP didn't support unicode until quite recently. AFAIK phpBB3 uses UTF-8 and thus supports Japanese characters, but it doesn't look like SDN will be migrating any time soon.

帝国はその伝説の過ちを繰り返そうとしている

Seems to work fine here. Can everyone else see it?

Yes, but that only works because they're encoded as HTML character entities. I'm guessing that Santiago's browser is trying to submitt non-Latin-1 characters directly.

The "New Posts+" icon for the Fanfics forum w/ subforum looks like ass on Blacksoul. It looks like it was never modified to match the skin.

EDIT: Just saw the call for icon submissions in the Senate forum. Never mind.

First thing that comes to mind is clear your cache, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Check the Senate thread. Mike hasn't designed new icons, yet. Hence my edit.

Thanks, but I don’t see any answer to the piece of shit ‘link to name bolded in quick reply’ nonsense which is not only completely useless, its activity fucking annoying. Anyone think that’s actually a useful feature, because if not I shall start the campaign to have this reversed at once.

It appears that gmodules.com has a rather gimpy or overloaded server or is serving up bloated code, causing SDN to randomly load slowly when the ad script calls gmodules.

Typo fixed --E. Sn0
I'd like to second Sea Skimmer's motion to have this misfeature either put to bed, OR, to make it useful, link to a prepared quote of the name at the post so named; in effect, make it the Quote Button, but pasted into the Quick Reply box to enable quoting of multiple people without copying, hitting 'Back', hitting another user's Quote button, and pasting. This would likely lower incidents of quote fuckups.

Reiterating: Gmodules is really fucking SDN up the arse with load time and browser-lockup while it loads, so I had to disallow it in NoScript.

Major system upgrade completed. New CPU swapped in, two more GB of RAM added, operating system re-installed and brought up to latest version. Let me know if there are any strange problems.

Me and several others had to delete our cookies and log-in again in order to get access. Not sure why, but it is easy enough to fix.

Well I for one had no cookie problem, auto login worked fine.

Not going to tell us what CPU you splurged on Wong?

Seems fine here, Mike. I'll test it later when I get home from earning a few of the more annoying dollars I've ever had to do. Feel free to play a very small violin for me :P

He got an Athlon X2 3800+ S939 if I recall the other thread correctly.

"Splurged" isn't exactly the right term. The motherboard is a pretty old Socket 939 board, and Socket 939 is pretty much history, so I took the last chance to pick up a dual-core CPU. The old CPU was a single-core Athlon64 3000+ and the new CPU is a dual-core Athlon64 3800+ X2. I also doubled the RAM from 2GB to 4GB.

The changes were prompted by the fact that the board was increasingly suffering from long timeouts when it would pretty much stop responding completely. Some of these timeouts could last more than a minute.

The board's database is too big to ever be lightning-fast unless I use a fairly expensive server, but I'm hoping to at least avoid those timeouts. The second core should help with that, as well as the extra RAM. Mind you, I might have to do some tuning on the database configuration in the weeks to come.

Good job, Mike! I haven't experienced any glitches with regards to the cookies or whatnot.

I had the same problem as Chewie, but now it works fine again.

Me and Typhoonis haven't been able to log in. I finally switched browsers back to standard Internets Explioter

I couldn't log on in Internet Explorer, which I usually use, so I switched to Firefox for the time being. I tried deleting the cookie and it didn't seem to help. I hope this problem can be fixed soon.

Are you sure you successfully deleted the cookie? There's no inherent problem with either browser, as we have people using both of them. But for both you and YB, the solution was to switch to whichever browser you did not normally use for this board, which once again smells an awful lot like a cookie problem.

Please make it useful. I've been using Quick Reply pretty much exclusively to the actual Reply button, and the bolded name feature isn't all that useful, except to direct posts. If it was a quote feature, it would be awesomely useful.

I went back, deleted ALL my cookies, and restarted my browser. Now I can log in again.
