"The mayor is considering to rethink their doings, but he still is not fully convinced, I'm afraid."

"Our friend the Mayor wishes to speak with the forests druids, and reach a settlement. We fear theat the Kobalds will not pursuaded not to attack regardless, but they can defend themselves against the Kobalds... You are another matter"

I have my doubts about the druids
Druid: Last I checked, it was considered rude to talk about somone in the third person when they are standing nearby.

I was writing it while you posted yours. He said it underway, not near the druid.

*the Mayor seems off-balence, out of place*

Druid: "You would be welcome to stay if you so chose. You have been invaluable. As for the kobolds you seem concerned about, we can discuss that afterwards."

"Mr. Mayor... If you are not up to negotiating directly, I may be able to assist...

Thank you... I would hate to be left in the dark wondering about these proceedings"

Mayor: "No no. Really, i'm fine, just a little nervious. I'll get straight to the point, what is it that you want."

Druid: "We want the amout of wood you use to drop. Anything more then what you used 5 years ago is unacceptable."

Mayor: "Bu....but there are 3 times as many people in this area now as there were then!"

Druid: "Then I suggest you find I way for 2/3'es of your population to go without wood."

" You are using that much wood because of your methods of construction. Your buildings are made completely of wood. Wattle and Daub, and mud brick would work just as well. "

"Very well."
" You are using that much wood because of your methods of construction. Your buildings are made completely of wood. Wattle and Daub, and mud brick would work just as well. "
Mayor: "Almost our entire economy is based on lumber! What am I supposed to tell the people, that half of them are out of a job, and that they have to start learning a whole new kind of construction?"

"The forest may very well be worth more to your people alive than dead. Either way, if you keep using the forest how you are, your people will be out of jobs anyway.

Instead of clear cutting like you have been, it would also be possible to stagger your woodcutting. Thin out the forest rather than destroy large sections. This would protect the forest from massive forest destroying fires in the long run. You would even be doing the druids a service.

Not only that, but the economy can simply go through a shift. There are many people that need guides through these woods, people that know the paths. Protection from bandits, and wild animals. Your town is situated on a well used path. You could very easily employ your people through moderate commerce."

"You should also consider re-forresting. It will take time, yes, but it would lessen the strain on the forrest over a longer period of time. And diversifying your indurstries would make you less dependant on one resource..."

Mayor: "And if I manage to do this, you won't attack?"

Druid: "Correct. We have no desire to fight if we dont' need to."

Mayor: "Great, but what about the kobolds? I'll have enough trouble trying to get the town not to lynch me as-is. No chance of convinceing them if we are going to be attacked anyway."

Druid: "Before I answer that, we deteced some arcane magic coming from the town today, I assume you have done some scoutning on your own?"

"Yes I did. I cast a scrying spell on the Kobald encampment to show him what he faced. I hope this isnt a problem?"

Druid: "Not at all. However, I regreatably must inform you that we have every intention of maintaing our aggreement with the fael. They said that if the forest was ever attacked, they would rush to our aid, and in exchange we would grant their forces free passage through our land in times of peace."

Mayor: "Who are these 'fael' and.....wait.....free passage? Four countries have borders on the great forest! And most don't even bother defening them because the forest has always been impenitrable!"

by Alyrium Denryle
"That is a bit of concern... I would like to inform you of the Fael's history. Centuries ago they attempted to conquer the world by forming alliances such as this, then pitting different sides against each other. I wouldnt trust them as far as I can throw them physically"

"The fael we talk of share nothing but a name. The origional councel was killed, and their souls imprisioned, all knowledge of their new magic was either lost or distroyed. It could not be the same people."

If my Raven is nearby, as I hope he would be if he saw them going to the forrest, I would like to have him say "Why not stagger the harvesting for the time being, and replant trees in the deforested areas, and in areas untouched by trees. Then when thopse trees grow you can harvest those trees in a cycling manner, thus saving your economy and the forrest, long term, and at the same time causing only small harm to both short term"

Whilst in the city I will buy the dart thrower, without poison darts, and I will nowst head over to the tinkerer to get that trigger made for spark.

Your raven says that.
Mayor: "...........the raven is talking."

"Who else would we give free passage?"

It comes to a total of 25gp.

Spark: "Ah, boss. With the dart launcher, we arn't going anywhere perticularly dangerous are we?"

"I simply had to make sure. Just be on the safe side, do not give safe passage to their allies or large mercenary companies."

Tsaroth looks at the disturbed mayor

"Ah yes, That is my friends familiar."

"I simply had to make sure. Just be on the safe side, do not give safe passage to their allies or large mercenary companies."
The druid laughs.
"Do not worry. We will honor our aggreement, and allow them and their minors to pass through, but we would never allow an army to march through the wood."
"Ah yes, That is my friends familiar."
"......are mages ALWAYS like this? Or do you practice being creepy?"
