Ok, you have two classes. They have identical point values, fighter complements, speeds, etc. only difference is the number of guns they have. Why do you have two? Does one classes have a greater emphasis on missiles than the other? Does one have greater emphasis on offense to defense? Is one designed to be a carrier? Is one just plain faster than the other?
And what you call something will influence how other people treat it. A battlecruiser emphasizes speed over armor, for example. A frigate is a really small ship.

OK, here's how the classes work, roughly. This is organized largest to smallest class (more or less, for instance, a Fleet Carrier could be as large as a Superdreadnought or as small as a BB), top to bottom. This is a rough guide only.
Capital:
Superdreadnought
Superweapon Platform
Fleet Carrier
Dreadnought
Battleship
Battlecruiser (Can be a weak capship or a powerful cruiser)
Cruiser:
Heavy Cruiser
Light Carrier
Light Cruiser (Can be a weak cruiser or strong escort)
Escort:
Destroyer
Escort Carrier
Frigate
Corvette

Nobody, really. There's an enormous variation in weapons and weapon powers, so exact numbers don't really matter, aside from how you write the ships when they engage in combat.

They could be point-defense batteries. The CSDF flagship Sonoma has a lot of PD batteries which are practically useless for offense.

But he described them as heavy quad turbolasers... Must be a relic from 25,000 years ago. The weapons are only useful as point-defense at our tech level.

1000 weapon systems yes... well the way i saw it is this. you have one ship with 8 HUGE friggen cannons (visible in side view) on that size comparison chart (where is the blasted thing?..). then you have mine with star wars scale 1000 cannons like an SSD. and the point values thing... im still a little hazy on that. the way you seem to want is for me to bastardize my ship for something you think is 'proper'... Heres my compensation, 50% off trade taxes to all star systems willing to allow my thousand weapons on a 13km platform ship. Then again this is just Thirdfains call, not yours.

your "Tech Level?" WTF?! i thought we were all of even footing for tech level... apparently the minor powers are just supposed to be there for show right? no real power in the minor territories? gah that sickens me.
and theres no way they could be 25000 years old when the civilization came from an Imperial type (empire pre-rebellion era) system 1000 years ago and essentialy developed thech from that period tech. even then the galaxy is at technical stagnation. from that it is possible for a technically advanced society (empire science colony) to be able to produce SSDs in 1000 years.
Seriously though all i ask for is one Superdreadnaught to put me on even footing. Becuase honestly it doesnt make sense otherwise to have a minor power becuase the major or even regionals could crush it!

Hey. If you want a 2 point SuperDread with a thousand guns, your choice. Unfortunately, a 5 point Battleship with seventy or so will do rather unpleasant things to you.

There is one general tech level, but the more points you dump into groups, you can get away with greater badassity(A 5 point Battleship likely has superior shielding tech, etc, than a 2 point version.).

My ships are ridiculously(No, seriously, they're way bigger than they should be) huge battle wagons studded with weaponry from the Cultureverse. Being a Grand Power means I can step on, say, the Sixth, and there'd be this little sound of a squeakie-toy deflating.
Maybe you shouldn't expect a Minor Power's heavy warships to be as lethal as a Grand's? I dunno.

isn't one-sided with people claiming uber-duper-super vessels.

oh and so you have a grand power with huge battlewagons, well in that case ill steer clear of your system. but of course youll still be allowed to come here under truce with one ship, but as seeing that you would have enough force to crush my sytem with one ship, i wont bother. jsut allow one of my ships to collect your ambassadors.
oh and i DONT expect total equality. but marginal i do. and you didnt answer my question, are the minors just supposed to lie down and be filler for this conlflict or are we allowed to join together and riseup against a regional or major defeat it and carve the sucker up? end.
