Just a suggestion, but you could bring the cart along with any of our horses (or pony as the case may be) when you make your way back. You could catch up with the ship fairly easily if you went at a decent trot.

A large crowd gathers, mage duels are a rare thing and fun to watch.

He shows up right on time. He's wearing red mages robes, over which is a set of scale-mail. The armor seems to weigh less then it should, and dosn't encomber him as much. He's also carrying a plain staff.

He looks supremely confident, and you breifly wonder if the storys about battle mages wearing red robes to conceal the blood of their oppoents is true.

He levels his staff and you are struck by......lightning bolt.

You have 1 free counter pre round, so, not being an idiot......his spell fizzles.

A second bolt flies from his staff (still in the first round), and hits you. 24 points of damage.

You pass your concentraion check and manage to activate you defensive spells.

Defensive spell up... I cast of course Minor glove, a command word is a free action IIRC(correct me if wrong, but speaking a single word is pretty damn quick)
