God damn it, why the hell didn't Nintendo release the Wii LAN Adapter at launch? Fucking January? Jesus Christ.

I just hope that Play-Asia's listing of "December, 2006" for the Japanese version is early December, and that the thing is compatable with the US console...

Rayman is very fun, with a quirky and off-beat design, and should be a good party game once you get everything or most of it unlocked in single-player. I think it'll be an excellent alternative companion to Wario Ware once that's released.

The general shocked concensus at PA is that Rayman kicks ass while Monkey Ball blows hard.

If you buy the USB WiFi dongle for the DS, the Wii will also pick it up and use it.

Yes, I know that, and we'll most definately pick that up when we get Uts' XP machine up and running again (which I have no idea when that will be).

But until then the LAN Adapter is more or less our only option (because we have no interest in buying a wireless router), and it will remain as a nice alternative after we get the WiFi dongle.

Good luck with that. Xbox Live Arcade charges several dollars for dodgey arcade games and gets away with it: I'd be surprised if the VC prices fall very much.

The batteries that came with Uts' Remote are starting to wind down, so sometime later today we should get a good general idea of how long they last.

Has anybody needed to change their batteries yet?

EDIT: Yeah, they just died a few minutes ago. About 30-32 hours, not counting time in the Wii menu screens. Pretty decent.

I was going to get some rechargables in anticipation of a GP2X, but then the PSX emulation fell behind schedule. Now it looks like I can justify the purchase.

Awesome. I wonder how quickly Nintendo will push out an update? :)

They won't, most likely. They're doing that through GameCube compatability mode, using the hardware they use to run custom code on GameCube hardware. As long as the Wii can use GameCube hardware you'll probably be able to do that kind of homebrew, but it's exactly the same as if you did it on a GameCube.

So the GC hardware isn't controlled or limited by the Wii hardware? Heh, then they're boned. :)

As an interesting note, a Nintendo rep (most likely just a temp hired from an events company though) confessed to me earlier this week that he'd tried playing around with his assigned Wii a bit, and discovered that he was able to use a freeloader disc to play import Gamecube games from the USA on the console. No idea yet if this kind of thing will work for Wii titles, but if it does...I'd imagine whoever makes it will be giving themselves a license to print money.

Lamecube 1.5--->Dreamcast 2!!!

Let's see how hard it is to break copy protection on Wii games.

Depends. Microsoft take the whole "arr-jimlad" business quite seriously these days, partly because much of the value of Xbox Live relies on people not abandoning games because they're full of cheating scum using modified gamecode. (there are some great PS2 games that would be good online, like Diablo clone Champions of Norrath, but since you can use a gameshark to cheat, and a large proportion of players online have, or have traded weapons from someone who has, it's not worth it).

I'm guessing you might see a lot of the same on the Wii, with Nintendo watching hawkishly for consoles reporting any kind of modification.

That said though, many Xbox games simply aren't region locked (and mostly the ones that are are for the Japanese market, as they tend to release there on different schedules).
