There's also a bit in there I noticed when skimming it that Daala's alliance with the Mandalorians is not welcomed with open arms in all circles. I recall hearing something about "Mandalorian hunting droids" somewhere in the novel. :P
Yes, that's indeed in there. It's is actually part of a plot-thread that has little to do with the novel (as I said in my review of Millennium Falcon, it appears to run concurrently with FOTJ 1 and I expect to see it resolved there.)

Valid point, especially given that these are the same editors who backpedaled on Vergere after the NJO ended and retconned her into being a Sith.

I've always convinced Daala was a pasty for other interests in the Alliance that quite didn't want to show their faces (possibly Jacen's old collaborators before they turned on him?)

And the Remnant hates her guts too. The Moffs actually sent her a mail bomb (don't know why) which killed her husband Liegeus and took out one of her eyes (hence her eyepatch).

It's possible; Niathal hardly seemed like the only GA official trying to take advantage of Caedus' ascension.

Yeah, Revelation never explained why. Perhaps they were afraid she would try to make another bid at controlling the Remnant in the wake of the Vong war.

Did they ever explain why a Sith would do the whole self-sacrifice thing that Vergere did in Destiny's Way? Its not exactly a common Sith trait.

Because she was grooming Jacen into being a better Sith and wanted him to survive?

EDIT -- Although frankly it's retarded that she was turned into a Sith. Much better that she's just a Jedi who went slightly crazy when exposed to the out there worldview of the Vong and synthesized their beliefs with hers.

That makes little sense. Daala, with her motley band of ships that do number in the low dozens threatening the Imperial Remnant?

It would be best to explain the bomb as the actions of some rogue fraction or relatives of the casualties Daala caused.

It was just speculation; I don't pretend to understand why Traviss or LFL saw the need to resurrect one of the EU's more infamous characters...

Or—Lumiya could have been lying to Jacen, using his respect for Vergere in order to con him into thinking being a Sith Lord wouldn't make him a monster.

That was my thought from the end of Betrayal onwards. Unfortunately, the One Sith's tale to Alema Rar in Inferno about having offered membership to Vergere disproved that (though they too in turn may have been lying).

Daala threatening the moffs doesn't make much sense, given that the Remnant at the point already had at least several dozen sectors, if we assume that one moff equals one sector.

Perhaps some of the Moffs had relatives that Daala killed, or bad feelings during her Black Fleet Crisis period rule in the Deep Core?

I take it Daala isn't popular here? I never have liked her much myself. Is there a 'lamest SW villains list' anywhere? If there is, I'd like to see it and make some of my own nominations...

I was hesitant until I saw Christie Golden on the author list, which made me cautiously optimistic. I've only read two of her warcraft books, but they were pretty damn good, and much, much more morally ambiguous then any of KT's garbage. If anything, at least we finally get to explore a lot of other force cultures.
