I mean, look at Nero and Shinzon side by side

Do they really look that similar? Dude on the left at least looks somewhat badass. Shinzon was a skeez in a rubber one piece from hell.

No, more like the Akula Class Destroyer, from Klingon Academy.

PROTIP - KA and SFC are based on FASA boardgames.

If it's got the underslung torpedo pod I'll be a happy man, lol.
SFC was based on Star Fleet Battles, not FASA. The models from KA were used in SFC because of time, I think.

Nero at least looks like a refugee from Dune. Evil-clone Skippy, on the other hand, looks like a refugee from a really bad off-Broadway musical (and, disturbingly, like Wesley Crusher without hair).

I'm not sure, given you no nothing about his character except for two photos, do you find objectionable? You claim he's "Shinzon reborn"... except for the fact that the two don't look like each other at all except they've both got bald heads.

It seems to me that you are trying to get on the front of the hate train without actually knowing anything about the movie. Yeah, the last four ST movies were loads, particularly Nemesis, but I just don't see what's so bad about the photos in this thread. Nero doesn't look that much like a StarTrek villain (as Patrick Degan points out, he'd look right at home in a Dune movie), but he doesn't look that bad.

None of the shots from the movie do for that matter. The new uniforms they've cooked up look good (both visibly being the uniforms of the original series, but updates), the ship action shot looks dramatic, and the actors they've got aren't that bad. What's your beef with it, other than it's StarTrek?

I'm waiting to see a trailer, but chances are, I'm going to steer clear of this movie until people here go to see it in the theatres and come back to rant about it.
Good idea. It's better to play it safe. If it's a bad movie you could lose something more than just the money you spend on it. You could lose your life.

Vaguely. If you blow it up and put them side-by-side they've got roughly the same shape, but the interior's different:

personally I can't tell what's on his hand apart from vague arrow/bird symbol, it could the romulan crest or something similar, though personally I hope they won't point out he's a romulan in front of the Enterprise crew (to make them pass him of as some wierdo vulcan maybe serving the romulans (Spock ofc might know the thruth but it doesn't mean he's gonna tell it)).
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Chris Pine is 28 years old. This is Shatner at 26:

Come on, people. You're blowing this "too young" shit way out of proportion.

In the third season, Kirk proclaimed he was 34 years old, onscreen in "The Deadly Years." If each season represented a year in TOS, then Kirk would have been 22 years old when he first encountered the vampire cloud from "Obsession".

I like the look of the uniforms and the cast. Sulu and Spock do look great, and I can get used to Simon Pegg as Scotty. I still don't get the Kirk "vibe" from Pine, though. Love the bridge. I think we're all going to have to get used to the fact that this is a complete reboot. Nobody can say, "Well, they didn't have this technology in "2273" or any other nerdly whining.

You know, based strictly on early leaked screenshots, people thought Nemesis was going to be pretty cool too.

So because I don't think Nero looks badass, think Sulu and Chekov in those particular shots didn't inspire me and find the bridge to be gaudy, you want some objective viewpoints where none fucking exist? Sure skippy, hold your breath waiting for me to detail my taste in a wholly objective way over something neither us have any knowledge except a few shots and some random statements.

I'm sorry if I'm not giving off some jubliation over pictures that do not impress me. If somehow this offends you? Good. It means we do not agree on a piece of entertainment.

And lo, seven months before the release, a first award won!

California On Location award for Assistant Location Manager of the Year. Not an Oscar, but surely the next best thing.
Trekmovie wrote:Star Trek picked up three nominations at this year’s COLAs. Supervising Location Manager Becky Brake was a finalist in the category of “Location Professional of the Year for Features” for her work on the film, while Kathy McCurdy and Scott Trimble were both up for "Assistant Location Manager of the Year for Features". Unfortunately, Brake lost her nomination to a tie between Douglas Dresser for Fired Up and Gregory Alpert for Frost/Nixon. However, McCurdy ended up winning in the "Assistant Location Manager" category, with Trimble being named a runner-up.

It's the first thing a Trek movie's won since Final Frontier got the "Worst Picture" Razzie, that's got to count for something.
You know, based strictly on early leaked screenshots, people thought Nemesis was going to be pretty cool too.
Doubtless some people did, but a lot more had their hopes for that one totally killed off by the leaked shots, since it confirmed that the leaked script was actually real, and not the fanboy-wank scribblings that it had been dismissed as.

I'm pretty sure Trek movies have awards since - First Contact got a few Saturns, for a start.
