Yeah, I'm kinda hesitant to accept anything written or said in the novel as canon, considering it was written by Karen Traviss.

Of course, I haven't read it yet beyond the first few pages in the bookstore, so I haven't been able to sort out the bullshit:reality ratio yet. I was kind of put off by the first few pages, though; apparently, Dom, who has been fighting the Locust for fifteen years, is going to stop in the middle of a Locust ambush to wonder why the Locust look so alien. Not to mention a Locust drone who charges straight into melee combat and decides to, of all things, grapple with a soldier who has a reputation for chainsawing opponents in melee instead of beat him with its rifle or, heaven forbid, shoot him, like they do in the game.

So, yeah. Four pages in and my bullshit detector was going off.

I didn't know that Traviss wrote for GoW, I hadn't payed much attention. So I guess she's not content to contain her poison to just one sci-fi verse.

Eh we know she's capable of writing a good novel and there's no mandalorians to wank over so I'll withhold judgement until I finish it.

Uhm, he didn't stop to think that. He thinking that while he's in the process of shooting them.

Eh, in the game I've seen locust perfectly willing to try charging in to stick you with a grenade, chainsaw you, or beat you with their weapon. Also the one that grabbed him grabbed him from behind not from in front.

Point conceeded on hims topping (I forgot about that part) but I'm still annoyed that Dom is even bothering to think about how alien the Locust are after he's been fighting them for fifteen fucking years.

I've never been hit in melee by a Locust except when I've been trying to hit them in the first place. Bolters and Grenadiers have, without fail, always shot me at close range first before resorting to melee attacks. The first time I've ever seen a Locust resort to a melee attack first without shooting a human was when I picked up Traviss' book, and the Locust trying to grapple with Dom instead of something much more sensible like staving in his head with the butt of its rifle or something really sensible like shooting him repeatedly in the back while he can't see you is just idiotic.

What can I say, I was playing Horde just last night and died when three locust piled on and beat me to death with their damn revolvers. Of course that same game I saw one of them use one of our team-mates as a human shield to.

Plus judging from the description I'm not sure how good a hit it could have gotten since it reads like it reached over the car Dom was taking cover in and dragged him over it into a stranglehold.

SPOILERS

So, I've been playing the game with a custom soundtrack instead of the normal one. I just happened to be listening to "Babe, I'm gonna leave you" by Lead Zeppelin when Dom found his wife. Right as Dom was pulling out the pistol the song was at:
Hear what I say, every day.
Baby, its really growin, you made me happy when the skies were grey.
But now I've got to go away.
And the last note keyed just as the cutscene faded. Damn that was an awesome scene.
I can never love you because I'm just thirty squirrels in a mansuit."

"Ah, good ol' Popeye. Punching ghosts until they explode."[/b]-Internet Webguy

"It was cut because an Army Ordnance panel determined that a weapon that kills an enemy soldier 10 times before he hits the ground was a waste of resources, so they scaled it back to only kill him 3 times."-Anon, on the cancellation of the Army's multi-kill vehicle.
