Technically speaking from the studio's POV , it does. They don't want critical acclaim, they want RATINGS. And they got them.
And while I WOULD have preferred Eccleston to remain the Doctor (if nothing else, I just liked his looks better) I had no quarrel with Tennant.

I don't know Dr Who prior to Eccleston (which might be the reason for the following) but I don't see much difference in the core approach to the character for both of them. Arrogant as hell, stupid beyond belief on occasion, makes ME look like a habitual mass murderer on the 'refuses to kill' issue, hopelessly devoted to his Companion, oh, and Tennant's Doctor had no fashion taste.I don't have any quarrel with him, I even in fact like him very much in S2.
