No. I just post hilarious bits from the paradox forums. I'm not stupid enough to buy paradox games brand new.

ITT we learn that Shep is an ignorant, blinkered, trolling moron who has no arguments to present let alone points to make.
Again.
At least we never get tired of the way he makes himself look like a complete idiot. Turns out everything he's said in this thread = retarded? IMPOSSIBLE.
The best part from the last post is of course that he doesn't buy Paradox games 'brand new'. Here he admits to being such a blinkered no-standards retard he buys utterly broken games once they've been patched.
Kinda like how Zod bought a 360 after the reliability issues were addressed I guess.
Shep? Totally misinformed? Looking foolish pontificating on something he knows nothing about? WHO KNEW.

More like I waited for the first price-drop before I decided to go with the 360.

Heh. When I got mine there was literally no competition in the console sphere; PS3 didn't have it's one game yet.

But why would you buy one when they cost about as much as a good 3D card? OMG SHEP IS SO SMRT!!!

Mind you, they were never really relying on the hardware making a profit (they certainly didn't with the original Xbox) - Xbox Live was always going to be where they made most of their money from, along with sales of their own first-party games.
I don't think this is the case. Microsoft really doesn't have any
huge first party sellers outside of Halo & Gears. Nintendo for instance can rely on their first party games stuff like WiiPlay, WiiFit, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart etc. which are all 10-20 million sellers.
MS relies heavily on 3rd party sales instead, as Sony did with the PS1 & PS2.
And Xbox Live's revenues are most likely a drop in the bucket when compared to hardware expenses or royalty revenues.

Nitpick: Gears is console exclusive, but it's not a first party title. It was developed by Epic Games. Microsoft only published it.

You're right, it's what's sometimes called a 2nd party title.
The reason I included is because I don't know how MS & Epic handle the revenues/profits on the Gears series. MS probably gets a fair share.

My 360 just gave me the red ring of death. (Surprise) After five and a half years and happy use, I can't bring myself to just sell it for parts or throw it away. Any ideas if there are any other uses for it?
More details:
I checked the error code, and it came up as a GPU/CPU/Bios failure. (So says the internet, I couldn't find anything officially published by Microsoft explaining the codes) The internet has suggested a couple... uh... solutions. One includes wrapping it in a towel for hours and forcing an overheat reset. Another suggestion was to pull it apart and use a heat gun, hoping the solder would remake a better connection after being softened. While neither suggestion seems like a great idea, I'm digging out my heat gun tonight anyway.

MS owns the IP, Epic make the games, they split the lootz.

The towel thing is simple. You overheat it to melt the thermal paste, allow it to re-set, and then it'll be OK.
What it really needs is the x-clamp which holds the heatsink onto the mainboard reseating or replacing. However, you could just get an Arcade for the price of a bag of chips anyway, so a repair may not be economical.

Yeah, I figured that's what the towel did after I thought about it for a while longer. I've gotten the x-clamps off.(never seen anything like that before, btw) Is there something I can do to help fix it?
I'm broke as shit right now and trying to find an apartment. I can't afford to drop any money right now.
