*shrugs* If ya say so. Those seem more like "things you look for in a lover," to me, though.

Well, lessee.. I really like to play with hair.. the dark skin is a major turn-on for me.. I like to look into the other person's eyes.. Skin rubbing is a happy thing if they've got muscles.. teeth are obvious.. Piercings are fun to play with. ;)

Like I said, "if ya say so." Far be it from me to deny another man his turn-ons.

I consider a fetish to be a taboo turn-on, or something that a lot of people find downright strange (like the foot fetish thing). So, saying that you like a certain hair colour or something--that's not a fetish, but saying that you like whips (yum) or chains (yum) or crush videos (ewwww!!)--those are fetishes.

The easiest way to make a fetish creepy is to turn it into a lifestyle. "OK. You're taking something that's supposed to be bedtime fun for adult boys and girls, and turning it into a lifestyle? I'm outta here."

*shiver*

Especially creepy is when people take their personal turn-ons and try to turn them into some universal fact of psychology (furry lifestylers are nearly always particularly guilty of this, and typically extremely creepy).

Turn ons: Dark hair and eyes. British accent.

Fetish: Sexy man with British accent whispering in my ear what he's going to do to me in bed.

No, but I am going to northeastern PA tomorrow for a few days. I think it's Wayne County, if you're curious. No Orange in my future. Sorry, babe.

Besides, don't you think it might be a little awkward for me to meet Betsy with my array of bondage paraphernalia? And obviously, I wouldn't think of excluding her... :P

As a fetish, I just don't understand hot wax. Nor breath restriction. Playing with your air supply is screwed up, IMO.

Meriam-Webster Dictionary online (link) reads:

Main Entry: fe·tish
Variant(s): also fe·tich /'fe-tish also 'fE-/
Function: noun
Etymology: French & Portuguese; French fétiche, from Portuguese feitiço, from feitiço artificial, false, from Latin facticius factitious
Date: 1613

1 a : an object (as a small stone carving of an animal) believed to have magical power to protect or aid its owner; broadly : a material object regarded with superstitious or extravagant trust or reverence b : an object of irrational reverence or obsessive devotion : PREPOSSESSION c : an object or bodily part whose real or fantasied presence is psychologically necessary for sexual gratification and that is an object of fixation to the extent that it may interfere with complete sexual expression
2 : a rite or cult of fetish worshipers
3 : FIXATION

Let's say your turn-on is redheads. Unless you can't sexually perform with someone who isn't a redhead (meaning to the point where a hot blonde could be all over you and you just can't get it up), it is merely a turn-on and NOT a fetish. That's my point. There is a line between the two; they are not interchangable.

To be fair, I think that the common useage of the word "fetish" is closer to being a mere "turn-on" than the strict dictionary definition.

You're absolutely right, it is closer (ie: I really like handcuffs and other restraints, but I do just fine without them too), but they are still not the same thing. That's my point with the definition. There is a difference!
