Correction: I think that any education which does not instill in the student an understanding of rational, objective thought through the prime example of the scientific method is a complete waste, because the resulting adult will have knowledge but not logic, information but not understanding. I suppose it's possible to learn about logic through independent study, but at the risk of being insensitive, what makes you think an education is worth anything if you come out of it without understanding basic logic? Very few disciplines teach it; philosophy teaches it in theory, science teaches it in practice. Otherwise, you've just got to hope you can learn it as you go along, which sort of negates some of the purpose of education (you're not supposed to need to pick up basic life skills on your own after your education is done).
