Ah, but what REALLY controls the PC market? Apple has only a 10% market
share IIRC.....the M$ working implementation made USB take off like
crazy....
Apple's marketshare hovers between 3-4%. At the time of the iMac's release it was higher.
Also, does anyone remember the days when Apple was a bankrupt and dying company? It took steve jobs to save their ass....
Yes.

Of ALL time? Facts please. I think it was actually the Apple II that was
the most successful, at least as far as sales to schools went.
Yes, and some people like different, Shep. A Corvette is 4x as cheap as a Viper, but it could still beat one in the quarter-mile. Why do people buy Vipers? They look fucking cool, that's why.
No, they buy them because they've got the biggest, largest displacement
engine in a production car under $80k....450 Horspower.....500 CUBIC INCHES....

Even if it looked like something out of the 1970s, it would have sold
well, because of it's massive engine...

I do have to admit, they hideously overpriced the Viper.....stupid Dodge
Execs....they could have had the next Corvette/Mustang on their hands,
but they had to turn it into a limited production car out of the reach
of virtually EVERYONE...stuupid stuupid!
Oh please. Apple controls their own market, and that's like saying Chevy controls the Chevy market. No shit, Sherlock.
*Sigh*

If I want to buy a new engine for my Chevy, do I have to go to a Chevy
dealer and pay hideous markups for the Chevy Brand on the engine?

No, I can just order a no-name aftermarket engine for 1/2 the price and
have it installed in my car, and it will work just as good as a chevy made
engine....you cannot do that with a Mac and aftermarket
non-Apple approved shit, because there is NO non-apple approved shit,
just the hideously overpriced Apple Approved shit......

You have the choice of going with a Chevy-Approved Engine or a Non-Chevy
Approved engine in cars..... Wrong analogy, duradnal.
About 30%
Ok, then I'll save that 30% and spend it on Porn DVDs to play in
my cheap IBM PC Clone....WHEEEE!

1. You can put that $98 120GB HD in a PowerMac. No problem there.
2. You can put standard RAM in a Mac. It doesn't play nice with the cheap crap, but decent-quality RAM works.
3. Depending on the computer, you have a selection of two different types of processors (some G3 iMacs would accept either a G3 or G4 upgrade.)

Exuse me for Num 1 I should have said unless you got it from Apple and 2. Not always True, I've had some steller ram play bullshit with Apple Computers Before Inculding some PC 170 Ram(PC-133 Guartined up to PC -170 at CAS2) throw all sorts of Hissy Fits with Macs

Agian, ONE Company, ONE Choice

With PC you have Three Choices along with diffrent models from Each Company(Except VIA) Bascily you have Five to Six CPUs to choice from depending on your interptation while with Macs you have one, The G series...

From what make? Macs are notorious for being picky with RAM.

I've had PC133 RAM flake out on me what I was driving it at 66MHz speeds at CAS3. Rating does not mean everything. (It was a K7/700 running Windows NT4).

Shep said that there were no aftermarket upgrades. There are and they are not from Apple.

There are two choices, the G3 and G4 lines. Within each line are a multitude of variations and for the former, two different makes (IBM and Motorola). Neither are manufactured by Apple.

Varations as in Clockspeed are not the Vartations I'm talking about

I was originally replying to Shep in that part, not you. You then decided to reply to my post.

I was not referring to variations in clockspeed. I am referring to differences in design and manufacture.
