So I take it this is more Kill Team scale? What are we looking at in terms of availability and unit size?

My modest Proposal

Jolan Gix: senior Interrorgator or Junior Inquisitor

Gender: Male
Height: 181cm
Mass: 78kg
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Short, straigh, and black
Skin: Olive
Distinguishing marks: Electo on left hand, small scar on left cheek.

A product of the exhaustive schooling and training that produces Inquisitors, was noted by his teachers's for his ambition and his potential. A gifted psyker, his talents are mostly telekinetic with an emphasis on pyromancy. He has yet to develop the skill and the finesse to use the more subtle arts. His marks and his training reports are consistently excellent, but he has yet to be truly marked by his trails. Bright and confident, he understands the dangers he will face. He treats them with proper respect, but does not have the wisdom to fear them.

Gix desires to prove himself and has yet to face any of the truly terrible decisions of his calling. He considers himself witty, although some have called him bland. He embraces the discipline of his calling. Time will tell whether the steel of his soul will be forged into a bright blade or shattered against the anvil of darkness.

He is typically garbed in loose fitting, expensive tunic and breeches over a flak bodyglove. He wears a leather duster and carries a hellpiston and long knife on his belt. Crack and frag grenades can be found in his pockets and an automag in his shoulder holster. He is rarely without his most prized possession, a force rod.

Much thanks, most beneficent one. *Kowtows* Your prose was especially magnificent today. :P

I'm rereading Kill Team right now, to get a feel for the Kroot way of talking.

Well, availability of stuff depends on what group you are. If you're Inquisiton, you can get anything, within reason. The Adeptus Mechanicus are a bit more limited, the Eldar less limited, and Chaos... Well. You get hordes and hordes of autogun weilding fanatics.

In general terms. However many characters you can write decently for should form the retunite. There's no limit, save for sanity.

NecronLord, should I be running a small band?
*Ego shoves its way to the front "quiet fool! I'll handle this* I think I can do a decent job with a small warband, if that is what you prefer. What do you think of my lead character idea so far?

Is just straight Guard available? I think I'd like to play a team of Stormtroopers or veterans.

Straight Guard is available. Yes. I'll figure out a way to write you in.

And yes, Overlord, you can have a warband. And I like him. Sorta. He can be a Junior Inquisitor.

Gah, I'm suffering a complete brainfart. I'll be back in about 9 hours after a sleep, and hopefully I'll know what I want more specifically than "at least 1 Kroot". I'm completely stuck for the rest of my retinue.

Brainstorm: A couple of Kroot (Obviously) and a Kroothound, Inquisitor, IG veteran and squad... Gah, brain failing. Off to bed, sleep and bleary eyes tomorrow.

I like to reveal personality in play, which is why the description is rather deficient in that area. He will play well with others.

I don't want a warband and I will certainly take a senior interrorgator position. It doesnt' really matter to me, but I do want to do whatever makes it easier on NecronLord. I don't have any problem being someone else henchman or the reason for Yosemite Bear or Pcm979 to bring in their xenos.

not strong enough of a psycher to be a grand harliquin, and carry force weapons...

Just strong enough to know what people fear...

Things I fear uhhhhh......

Shrieker Cannons in the hands of a good shot. Check.

Death Jester in melee. Check.

Getting stabbed with a harlequin's kiss. Check.

You seem to be pretty scary.

Lt. Zag's "Wereraptors" special operations Stormtrooper unit

1LT Kaelus "Zag" Zaggridson
Cadian Male, Age 38
"Open fire, damnit!"

Gear: Carapace armor, power sword, plasma pistol, monofilament combat knife, frag/krak grenades, auspex, vox suite in armor

The hard-nosed leader of the so-called "Wereraptor" squad, Zag's not some pretty-boy, he fought his way up to his current rank. A Cadian Gate veteran, he's seen his fair share of Chaos and is always ready to give heretics hell. Briefly considered for training by the Commissariat.

MSG "Riff" Fergus
Catachan Male, Age 30
"Burn, motherfucker."

Gear: Stripped-down and modified carapace armor (heretical to the AdMech, of course) with extensive camouflage and cameleoline added, heavily modified flamer, grenades, Catachan combat knife, variety of improvised traps and potential throwing or melee weapons

Your typical flamer-wielding Catachan, Riff isn't too fond of strangers, though he's learned to work with his squad. Tossed around the galaxy with his former regiment, eventually he was one of few remaining of the original unit. Re-assigned to the Schola Progenium for additional training (which he, of course, largely scoffed at) and quickly placed in the Wereraptors.

SSG Karey Greshn
Cadian Female, Age 29
"He may be infected. Kill him."

Gear: Carapace armor with a medical suite, hellgun carbine, hellpistol sidearm, monofilament combat knife/bayonet, all manner of first aid and field surgical gear

Greshn, like all Cadians, grew up in very militaristic surroundings. She quickly acquired an affinity for anatomy and how to fix it, rivaled only by her skill in close-quarters combat. Commended for identifying, quarantining, and cleansing a genestealer infection in her company, and was later present during the destruction of the cult responsible.

SGT Habib Al'Shahid
Tallarn Male, Age 26
"I am a martyr for the Emperor! Death to the infidels!"

Gear: Carapace armor, hellgun carbine, dual boltpistols, monofilament combat knife/bayonet, frag/krak grenades, melta bombs, variety of improvised explosives and other demolitions gear.

Habib is an odd one. No one knows how or why he's still alive. The priests say he's blessed by the Emperor. His comrades call him lucky. The enemy knows he's hell. Often found screaming the Emperor's name as he runs about the battlefield wildly, firing weapons seemingly at random or throwing all manner of explosives at heretics and xenos alike. His fanatical single-mindedness and ridiculous kill ratio makes him an ideal candidate for dealing with Chaos.

SGT Hans Mitzen
Kriegan Male, Age 29
". . ."

Gear: Carapace armor, missile launcher, hellpistol, mono-filament combat knife, frag/krak missiles

Mitzen is quiet. His service record indicates extreme proficiency with a variety of heavy weaponry, particularly anti-tank. Kills to date: 24 Ork "Wartrakz," 41 Ork "Warbikez," 13 descecrated Leman Russes, 5 Ork "Battlewagonz," 38 Ork "Wartrukkz," 6 Ork "Fighta-bommerz."

CPL Uria Kneedr
Cadian Female, Age 24
"Xeno schmeno..."

Gear: Carapace armor, scoped hellgun, monofilament combat knife/bayonet, frag/krak grenades, spare missile ammunition

Kneedr is another Cadian who performed well in her Kasrkin unit. Generally acts as the squad marksman. Numerous reprimands for disobeying orders and disrespecting officers. Showed remarkable talent for grav-chute deployment.

PFC Ghaer Vorgrun
<Purged> Male, Age 20
"Sir, incoming!"

Gear: Carapace armor, hellgun, monofilament combat knife/bayonet, frag/krak grenades, auspex, vox suite

Vorgrun's homeworld was purged for heresy, and he does not speak of it. He specializes in reconnaisance and signals, though often finds that his skills are generally un-needed when confronting Chaos in close-quarters. Still, he is good with a rifle and makes a decent grunt if nothing else.

PFC Mia Credence
Cadian Female, Age 20
"Fuck that's hot!"

Gear: Carapace armor, plasma gun, monofilament combat knife, frag/krak grenades

Credence is one of those few who survived a couple years as a plasma gunner. Half-believing her issued weapon to be blessed, Mia just always seems to know when the gun has reached its limits.

PVT Johan Schmidt
Kriegan Male, Age 19
"Jawohl mein Herr!"

Gear: Carapace armor, hellgun, monofilament combat knife/bayonet, frag/krak grenades

Trooper Schmidt is mostly just a grunt. Possessing no specific skills, he was assigned to the Wereraptors out of a combination of convenience and Administratum laziness.

Don't worry, I expect him to heroically confront the mega demon prince alone...

Ooops. I've said too much.

Well I am playing a trained Inquisitor who happens to be a talented Psyker and own a force rod. It is nice to know that I am in the same power range as everybody else. With Inquisitors it is easy to go overboard.

No worries, I'm creating these characters fully expecting at least half of them to die horrible, gruesome, Guard deaths. :P

This is 40K. Horrors beyond our comprehension await. We asked for it by starting character creation. The only question is how long is going to take for us to get it.

"Praise the Emperor and pass the ammunition. Ogryn, the Emperor wants you to take out that machine gun nest!"

Life is cheap. Ammunition is expensive.

My predictions:

Riff Fergus: Being the proverbial cool black guy, he will quite obviously be stalked and brutally murdered by a lictor after an intense chase through close quarters.

Karey Greshn: Mutilated and flayed alive by dark eldar.

Habib: Gibbed from detonating the 10 meltabombs strapped to his body after throwing himself at a Defiler.

Hans Mitzen: Bolter round to the head.

Uria Kneedr: Chainsworded by a World Eater.

Zag: Heroicly overwhelmed and killed by hordes of cultists/orks/tyranids, taking dozens with him whilst screaming maniacally "Arrrgghh! Emperor damn you heretic/xenos!".

It's a crying shame. The cool black guy always gets it in the neck in the most unfair manner possible. The Resident Evil movie is best example of this phenomena.

But better you than me. :)
