Only 4 Hive tyrants (old, but should still have use especially with a new weapons sprue) and one box of the old Terminators. My plan was to auction one of each next week at $10 and watch the prices. I picked up some Gaunts and 2 Warrior boxes, but now I'm holding on to them and the BfM tyranids and probably will paint up that army first, using some Tamiya acryllics that I have available.
How much are you hoping to make on the tyrants? I might be interested, but unfortunately I don't have a huge budget and I assume that shipping will be expensive...

I see them go for about $25 quite regularly. Judging by the last item I shipped out, something as small as a Tyrant box might not be more than $5. That's all I can honestly guess for now, I'll have a clear idea once I sell one or two. I'm also pretty sure I'll be auctioning off two Landspeeders, since my army only only needs so many.

Thought I'd make another attempt to liven this thread by posting my painting results here first (well, first following my website):

That's the BfM Termaguants, painted to completetion but without the bases done. That's essentially an accurate photo for what they look like in person, although the colors seen here are slightly washed-out and blend together more than reality.

This one's colors are off, but it shows the highlighting with a bit more contrast and larger-than-life magnification:

Look pretty cool. Shame that even digital cameras FUBAR models so much.

Utsanomiko, they look nice. A trick to help making photos show the true colors better - If you have access to a color printer, print a sheet that fades from blue to white, pick a shade close to "ultramarine blue"

Place the figs on the blue part, with the fade to white being the background, then if possible, set up 3 lights - 1 on each side and 1 over head. Turn of the camera's flash and then take your shots. While it won't be a perfect translation, it will be pretty damn close.

I've never been fantastic at painting, I can get the painting accurate, especially on tanks, but I'm not so good with the fancier tricks, drybrushing, ink brushing etc. I always tended to just paint the models enough so they looked reasonable and get on with the playing
The guy who runs the local independant retailer has won a bronze golden demon, if that makes sense, for a Warhammer swamp diorama, and he's done loads of other great stuff, including titans, swarms of nids, marines in action etc.

Dry-brushing is easy; it's the poor-man's detailing for shaky-handed painters like myself. Just get out that Boltgun Metal and an ox-hair brush, wipe all the paint off, and go nuts on the metallic areas (such as power armor or guns). It makes a world of difference.

Has anyone bought any Forge World models? I still get the monthly newsletter, and some of their new stuff seems to be focused on an Imperial Base terrain piece which looks pretty amazing.
I myself have a Vindicator, which looks many times better than the stock version. Someone In GW a while back had an Imperial Guard armoured company, complete with Warhound Titan and Baneblade, not to mention about 9 Leman Russ tanks, and about as many chimaera's for his mechanised army. That guy had wayyy to much money to be healthy for a hobbyist

I have the FW Death Guard dreadnought, but I got that off of Ebay for about 1/2 what it would have cost from FW direct.

I also have their XV89 Crisis Battlesuit, picked it up at Games Day, didn't have to pay the hidious shipping costs.

Sadly, both sit in my to do pile, currently working on a freinds SW themed Necron army, plus my own drop pod marine force.

Is that the one with the weapons positioned sort of under the arms? They are way cooler than the stock versions. And the Forge World broadsides!
So damn cool! Railguns on their arms!

Yeap - XV89. They were like $24 at games day, so I couldn;t pass it up, I liked the model, looked like a great way to make a commander stand out

And their broadsides are da'bomb. What I really like is that I had seen stock broadsides convereted to have the railguns carried by the arms shortly after they came out, in fact I did the same thing. The FW ones are just too beutifal, but damn they are costly

I'm a bit late, but Uts, I remember last weekend when you started painting those, and they seriously look great. I actually can't wait to see them in person tonight.

Dammit, I don't even play anymore and I want some of that stuff! Imperial Guard turret with 4 heavy stubbers, loads of new Cadians, and some beasty new nids!

Well, looks like I'll have my Death Company Marines accounted for now. I won an auction from an ebay store for 15 Jumppacks + bits, which I can see includes 9 heads and Assault legs & torsos, six chainswords, a bunch of shoulderpads, and a pair of powerfists. Most of the jumppacks are primed, and only one chainsword is primed. $25.90 after shipping.

Lucky SOB. I really need to get into that whole ebay thing.

Anyway, I recently had an idea for some customizations, and I'd like to run them by you for ideas, especially what you would do for the models and the stats.

Slanni army:

They would be an army made by the old ones to fight the Necrons.

Lesser Slann: WFB skinks with some of their swords or shields replaced with pistols. For weapons, I am thinking of using plasticard and some of the spear hafts to make gunbarrels. For the shields, I was thinking of using shield and 'vibrosword' (the toothed sword) combo or shield and 'power club' (the club) combo, using the shield as a 'blackstone shield' which grants its user a big save against necron weapons.

Slanni Warriors: Saurus warriors with the same kind of weapons, but I would also give some of them warp-based heavy weapons (by gluing eldar weapon parts to the Saurus drum). Also, I would use many elf, eldar and dark eldar parts to give them a more technological look that fits with their background fluff. And then I would use armor plates and the combs from DE warriors to recreate the Slanni Warrior look as seen on page 139 of the rule book.

Wraithbone/blackstone war machines: I would use the banner snakes from the saurus sprue and perhaps add eldar or Tau limbs (tau also have 3 fingers), or just go nuts with the Wood elf Dryad sprues and some shields for armor and call it wraithbone. These would also carry heavy weapons (from saurus or elf staffs) or power fists and have saving throws against either necrons or warp-based powers.

High Slann: These would be the HQ guys and constructed from filed down Saurus heads (no frills) and either modifies Kroot bodies or (filed down) Dark Elf armor.

Slanni Heavy weapons teams: Slann mages would basically be the Slanni psykers and artillery (I need to work on this idea more).

What would the Old Ones look like?

Essentailly: I have no idea whatsoever. I'm only partially familiar with 2 or 3 WHFB Brettonian and Chaos model kits, and only know the vague basics about Old Ones/Slann/Necrontyr. What army rules would you field them as, or is this purely for a couple display models?

I did get my Assault Marines in the other day, as advertised. Might have to aquire a couple bolt pistols, but I'll be able to field a typical Death Company squad for now.

I also finished my Genestealers last week. Even purshased some armored shoulders for them (along with 10 guardsmen lasgun arms and 2 chainswords, $6 total):

I've considered increasing the highlights, but I don't want them too bright yellow. It shows up in person at least.

Those look pretty neato. I like the armor on the genestealers a whole lot; it looks dramatic somehow. What colors did you use?
Also, the yellow looks good. You have plenty of contrast between the skin and the muscle(?) grooves without the thing looking like a canary. It looks more like a dinosaur, which is the point. My only suggestion would be some blood on one of the claws or the tongue to break up all that white/bleached bone/pale blue?.
I've never been a "less is more" kind of guy. :D

Mostly the Slanni would be just for display, alongside some Adeptus Custodes I'm working on (Chaos Warrior body, CSM torso and hands, elf silverhelm helm, lots of purity seals and junk), but I think it would be really cool to have some stats on them should I ever want to play them.

I also want to use some of my random leftovers to make the Machine God. He would have the exact same stats and rules as the Deceiver. 8) But I need a lot more experience before I can handle a customization of that magnitude.

Basicly I like to use only half of the sprues in any of my boxes and save the rest for use in something else.

The skin is Bubonic Brown with a dark brown wash using a run-of-the-mill acryllic craft paint. The wash gets wiped and blotted off with a paper towel. I highlight it with an heavy drybrush of Bleached Bone on the highest points, and go back over those with some more Bubonic Brown to bring back some color (I created that last step on the stealers and went back to do it for the gaunts). No fancy paintbrush skills but it'll get the shadows and highlights done for a mass-unit army. I prefer subtle contrast to a 'cartoony' feel with heavy outlines and shiny white ink reflections.

The funny thing is the vague theme I developed for those colors was a cockroach's body. :P I let the stealers have brighter skin with more shadows on the shells but even the Gaunts turned out brighter than originally slated. But I'm glad it looks like more than a bug anyway.

Hopefully I'll either finally start on some damned Marines next week or do my other 8 Hormagaunts & 8 Spinegaunts. Combine those with three Warriors (~144 points total) and I'll have a nice 500-point core force.

I also got my 40K rulebook in today, after sending the first one back due to manufacturing damage (inside cover was bare cardboard and was missing the first blank white pages). Ebay seller refunded the costs of shipping it back and included a Citadel drybrush with the replacement book.

Not bad for $36. Oh how I love being able to ensure good business deals. :P

You should read that along with sections of my Marines Codex and some Wiki articles. Your lack of appreciation stems from ignorance. :P

I do have an appreciation, it's just that that fucking book's been gone for like a God damn month, and I'd rather read that before going onto the Space Marines and Chaos codices.

And I have read some of the stuff on the Wiki, scrote. :P

Holy shit, I've been out of touch: How long has everyone else known about the Vostroyans?

Dunno, maybe a month and a half.

As for those Witchhunters I mentioned earlier, with that Inquisior I want to make I want to use some Vostroyans as his Veteran Guardsmen. Add in some cyborged logicians, a red pointy-hooded executioner, and some Pilgrims & Preachers from Hell, and I think I'd have a fancy retinue of fuckers in a pure Witchhunter combat patrol. :D

As for non-pure WH forces, I sadly determined I cannot use Inquisitors as allies in a Black Templars force (they count literally as psykers regardless of powers), so no Assassins for allies, either. I guess I could always take BTs as normal allied Marines, but then no Sisters so I'd have to field Stormtroopers as required troops (and it'd be a long time before I'd buy that many extra troops).
On the other hand I confirmed that Immolators do in fact count as transports for Dominion Squads, so I could take one ~100 point Dominion squad and pop them in an Immolator. In-your-face melta action with medieval-on-your-ass Black Templars, back them up with a shooty Adepta Sororitas battle squad and I've got an army from a darker age.
