Joint Anglo/Ozzie thankyouverymuch! :P

And knowing CA, it'll get leaked two weeks before it's actual release day, hah.

And having just looked around the various websites: It looks like the UK will for once be getting something ahead of the states; 11/11/06, USA, CA, and Oz will have it a few days later :)

Well, it's official, the game is unplayable on my machine on anything but the lowest settings. Which makes it look hardly better than RTW. Crap. :(

Oh well, I knew the moment would come. So far, everything that came out worked fine on my machine, but I guess, everything must end sometime.

have a very nice day.

At least yours works man. I need to manage to get a new graphics card with money I don't have in order to even play Medieval 2.

I just spent $1700 AUS upgrading my machine so I can play MTW2. :)

There's a new demo out! Apparently the one we've been playing is using the Beta engine, this one is the Gold engine. It also includes a new battle... against Aztecs!

Indeed, everyone download the new demo immediately, the gods of Total War demand it!

(unfortunately, I'm dividing my bandwith between Galactica and the improved demo, and my bandwith for this month has been exceeded, so I'm reduced to 64kbps. Oh, the pain ...)

Smacked down the Aztecs, heh. The one thing that I did find odd that is that I thought Aztecs were very superstitious and scared of the gunpowder weaprenry? How come in this demo they charged right into my ever decreasing horde whilst being shot at? My generals unit was right down to one horse. that was a damn close call.

Anyone else noticing that the gunpowder units don't seem to have the same initiative that archers do? Archers will auomatically shoot at units that come into range, where it seems you need to order the musketeers to fire.

I've started grouping my long gunners so that I can put them under AI control just so that I don't have to micro them constantly, and can focus on holding the battle line.

You need to set them to fire at will, if you didn't already?

I found that battle quite easy- I merely grouped Cortes and all his Conquistador cavalry and flanked the Aztecs after they came into contact with my line. Didn't really need my Musketeers or Pavise Crossbowmen.

Was hilarious watching all those Chiefs get killed :)

Has anyone actually seen a full map yet? I'd quite like to see what the various parts of America look like, heh.

I don't think so, but it's slated for release in less than two weeks, so it can't be far.

Or it's going to be delayed. Which would suck.

As in, you ordered it, or you physically own the game?

Ok, checking the forums and reports of it's early release in certain European countries, it's obviously gone gold. It's reported out in Denmark as well. European retailers (apart from the UK) don't give a fuck about the "official" release date, apparently.

Sucks. Why do we have to wait and you guys already have it.

I wonder if I can swindle where I pre-ordered my copy into giving me the damn game early. I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition.

There is a Collector's edition? Where? Can't find it on Amazon.

The English cavalry doesn't appear to be that weak.

So maybe it'll be poor cost to efficiency ratios for their cavalry then?

Well their selection of cavalry isn't very large compared to the likes of the HRE, Turks, Byzantines, and presumably French. Also, their knights are outclassed by Imperial and Milanese Gothic knights, and probably whatever the French get. Plus, the Knights Templar and Hospitaller are only available in crusades.
I'd like to see what the French get, like if they have francs-archers or Ordannance cavalry (They had them between 1450 and 1530, afterall).

The English have the good infantry, though. That's important. I think the quality of your cavalry is less important than employing them correctly. Properly used, it won't matter how good your cavalry is, as they'll be slamming into the flanks/rear of hapless infantry who will soon break.

For playing the PC, at any rate. Versus a human player, there may well be cavalry versus cavalry battles.

New unit on the 3d view- Dismounted Noble Knights
These men are the elite of the French aristocracy, and can afford the best in arms and armour, including the lethal armour-defeating Pollaxe. As the flower of French chivalry, they have an elan that is unrivalled. Although they have a reputation for rashness when mounted, many are pragmatic enough to realise that sometimes it is better to fight on foot.

So when france gets to the later periods, will the musketeers fight amoungst themselves when not facing a foreign power?

I know good infantry is very important my favorite Medieval factions are the English and HRE with their excellent heavy infantry. I was just replying to Pelranius's comment that the English cavalry didn't seem that weak, and I was saying relative to other factions the English have a smaller and less versatile selection of cavalry.
Also, the French faction rundown came out today, and the Spanish are going to be up tomorrow. The French do have francs-archers in MTW2.
