Funny. I always thought IG were a darned strong side. Economically, Guardsmen are worth more for the req than any other basic infantry, and their early tanks are accessable, and easy to use. Hellhounds? Wind em up and go! Sentinels? hold em back and click on armor.
Once it goes lategame, the baneblade's the best super unit, just because it can engage multiple enemies at once, at range. Leman russes are great too, because of their armor. you could spam ogryns that are a match for assault terminators too.
What exactly was the issue with IG? I know their early anti-tank armament was poor... but what else?

I played Guard all through Winter Assault, and kicked ass with 'em. I don't see why everybody at Relic thinks they were a joke then.

. . . Buh? What the hell was that? Whats so important that Relic feels the need to tell us in big white numbers that 2007 is comming? Is this another expansion? Or the anouncement of somthing else?

Got it. Love it. Worth the price of the sale I got it for.
Tau are sweet. If I get enough fire warriors, I can find the maps choke point and then just sit on it, letting the waves of plasma wash over the enemy and kill them. First mission, 3:1 kill ratio against the orks. I've arleady finished off the Orks and the Necrons (the Necrons not because I found them powerful, but they'd already capped off the IG and the Chaos, which means I don't get too....). Also, 2 Hammerheads + 6 Skyrays + Pathfinder team = baselevelling volleys from outside enemy gun range. Yeah, the Tau are ridiculous at the long game, especially if you go Kauyon. Mont'Ka is just as good though.

I REALLY don't like the tau super unit though. A giant croc? That's stupid. Why do the auxillaries provide some alien gator monster as a super unit? Particularly when they're TINY compared to other supers, like the avatar, squiggoth or baneblade?

But the Knarloc is a descendent from the Kroot! Plus it can raze a WAAGH! banner in three hits and kill a hero in one shot if it bites him. It's decidely sweet if you want to drop five vehicle points on it.

Hmmn, Guardians do have trouble against Firewarriors. However, Banshees and Reapers are pretty decent against a force of Kroot & Firewarriors.

Finish the campaign(Necron only?), and watch the credits. When they are over, there is a brief cutscene of seveal planets with explosions on the surfaces, then it fades to black with the numerals 2007 and the company's name.

Why would you exterminatus a shitload of worlds?
Because something swarmed them and ate them, that's why.

Relic has repeatibly said they feel they could not do the 'Nids justice with the DoW Engine....
Now the engine they used for CoH, however...

I doubt we'd get DoW 2 so soon after Dark Crusade. I'm betting we are going to get a few new planets to run DC's nifty campaign mode on. Rather than being a full expansion with significant new content, just a Worlds pack.

Maybe it would incorporate whatever GW's global campaign is....

Why can't the DoW engine do the Tyrannids justice? My buddy had this thinggy in his computer that overrode the unit caps, you ought to see the hordes of Obliterators, Cultists, Berserkers and whatnot! And the hordes of inbred Ogryns I used to defeat them. The computer lagged a bit, but that was just because there was so fucking much of them. Still, I think Tyrannids are doable. As for detail? Well, we can always have the basic Nid squad resemble the hordes upon hordes of builder Gretchins the Orks use. How they acquire strategic points, listening posts and all that, that'd be hard to do.
I can just imagine it now: Gaunts! Gaunts of all shapes, forms, sizes, colors, densities, masses and volumes! Hormogaunts! Termagaunts! Hemogaunts! Thermogaunts! Heliogaunts! Decagaunts! Centigaunts! Milligaunts! Pseudogaunts! Necrogaunts! Mortagaunts! Metagaunts! Archeogaunts! Dinogaunts! Paleogaunts! Thetagaunts! Ultragaunts! Heirogaunts! Until it degenerates into the likes of...Rockgaunts! Hardgaunts! Fastgaunts! Slowgaunts! Smartgaunts! Weakgaunts! Smallgaunts! STRONGGAUNTS!
*punches self*
Anyway, I love DoW but I'm not the best RTS player in the world. I suck. Ass. But I just fucking love the Guard, so could anyone give me advice on how to play them? Seems like with the Marines and Chaos, you get all these strong units and you can kick marry ass with them, but the Guard's infantry get slaughtered and with DC, tank swarming will be impossible for me. Which sucks. Ass.

The guard are simple to use. I rather like them that way. Startup is the most critical phase.
Start by building a barracks, and have your HQ build two IG squads. Have them cap nearby points, and get a second techpriest. Build posts on em, and 1 powerplant.
Increase both squads to max size, and cap more points. Get a third as money becomes available, and have this group (plus commisar) run out to skirmish with the enemy. Get Tactica Control, and upgrade them all with grenades. Proceed to own the hell out of the field for 3 minutes while you develop. Get Sentinels ASAP for the inevitable first armor unit or two.
From there on, it's really a matter of expanding and pushing the enemy back with vehicles and the grenade volley.

Is anyone up for a game with a newbie? I don't have Crusade, but I do have gold edition and I'm currently wrapping up the installation and going to finish patching and then I'll be ready.

Oh my dear goodness, Flash Gitz. They have to be seen to be believed.
*walk into range*
*right-click on enemy squad*
*BAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAM*
*enemy squad dead in 3 seconds*
You can only get two squads of these guys but their guns make Tau pulse rifles look like water pistols.

While I haven't won the campaign yet (The Eldar and I have to throw down, any tips would be nice since their farseer is up there in war gear), I had a strange idea as to what the vid at the end means. Could they be planning on bringing an actual Dark Crusade to DoW? You know, the one were Chaos goes ape shit and abaddon comes out of hiding? That'd be grounds for blasting multiple planets, especially if they go tearing acrossed IoM controlled space taking over a shitload of planets. Just my two cents.

Your thinking of a
Black Crusade.

I'm hoping they've been busy kicking the ol' HW2 engine up to scatch so we can have a proper DoW/BFG hybrid.

I think that's the problem right there. The standard DoW economic models don't do the Tyranids justice. It makes them look like Zerg.

I've not got the game, and couldn't run it anyway, but this thread makes me curious... To people who've played the Necron Campaign to the end:
A statue of the Void Dragon? What kind of form is it in? Can anyone get a screenshot?
Talking Pariah? Do any of the other units talk (coherent sentances like 'we will first put you in yours' I mean)? What's the history of that one?
Posted: 2006-10-15 06:59pm
by Tasoth
I believe the Pariah talks because every other stage where you go up against the enemy you get trash talked by the commander unit. If a necronlord were to do that, it would take away a part of their horror, since they're obviously low enough to trash talk. So they stuck the part on the human/necron for that part since it is human after all.

I started up the campaign as IG and am finding it too easy on Normal.
Once I finish up I might have to start up on hard to get some sort of challenge out of it.
