Sigh. You really haven´t paid attention to recent spoilers, have you?
Palpatine is said to hint that he knows the secret of eternal life. Anakin has had a vision where Padme is dead, so he´s desperate to find out what it is. In other words, he needs Palpatine alive so he can learn the secret as well. Too bad by the time he´s in the suit, Palpatine reveals there is no such secret and that Padme is dead, so everything is in vain. And Vader can do little else but follow him, if he wants to do some good in the galaxy. Vader is the product of flawed idealism.
Its also a hell of a risk putting himself at Mace's mercy in the hope that he could keep him talking long enough for Anakin to show up and make a decision.
He´s always in control, I´m sure he´s coordinating his fighting so the timing is just right. Then he plays the frail, old man with the big juicy secret to get the kid on his side.
Besides, Anakin is already said to be at odds with the Jedi Order, while Palpatine keeps stroking his ego. Won´t be that big a leap to turn him against them, if he believes they´re enemies to society.
As for the hand, to my mind it just smacks of repetativeness and lazy writing which I'm kind of hoping their trying to avoid, especially if this movie is supposed to have the best fight choriography they've had yet.
How is it lazy? That little mantra of yours still doesn´t make any sense.
