To illustrate the principle for others: We have nation B, a second-world nation, and nation A, a first-world nation.

They have similar populations, but nation A has 100 billion GDP, while nation B has only 10 billion.

They both have growth ; Nation A is on the top of the heap and is pretty much the technologicla standard. It typically has 3% growth.

Nation B is pretty primitive, but is modernizing. It's introducing modern technology, and since it has no, say, modern telecomms, any investment brings more marginal returns for B than for A ; Therefore, their growth is slightly faster, about 5%.

So, at year 0, the proportions are 1:10 in favor of nation A.

After 10 years, development of B slows down, because they now have the Internet in every household and it pretty much achieved what it can to bolster productivity.

So, through these ten years B has reached 16.3 billion GDP, while A has 134.4 billion.

The proportions are now 1:8.25, so B has caught up a bit, but nobody has any illusions that A isn't still vastly, vasly richer. And of course A will be first to use any new technology it discovers first, and jump off again.

yea, but what if both B and A are first world? there'd be little difference.

IIRC, some Duchies and Principalities chose a smaller, but 1st world population.

Sure, obviously. It only applies if you're closing the technological gap, like an agrarian nation jumping to an industrial nation or such.

Or an organizational gap. Say, you manage to establish an effective government in Somalia, and you're guaranteed to get growth like 20% for the first few years :D
Stas Bush wrote:IIRC, some Duchies and Principalities chose a smaller, but 1st world population.
Yeah, then convergence obviously won't apply.

In fact, PeZookia's growth is a bit conservative, but I like it that way. No massive credit blowups :D

yeah, but our Somalia is so big no one actually wants to take it on.

even OMSK so far shied from it. and we're big and growing.

especially with Saddamistan staying right in the midst of possilbe aerial traffic

I'm gonna need help in announcing Shroomania's economic developments. But I shall make up for it with the most outrageous advertisments for the FCS. Goddamn metal motherfuckers!

Just PM me and I'll gladly help.

Or we can chat at the ISCA budget ;)

PeZook, do you use a program to figure out your GDP and growth or do you just know all of that off the top of you head. If you have a program would you be able to share it or provide a link to it?

Thanks

Oh, come on. I just put a figure that "seems" right, and nobody's complained yet :)

I would've had to model my entire economy if I wanted to figure out what my actual GDP growth would look like, and I don't have a World Bank supercomputer farm on hand to do that :D

So I decided that 4.5% sounds "about right" (if conservative: all that investment Shep and Shroom are doing will probably mean a growth of about 6-7% in FY2009, with a slight increase in inflation to boot) and then multiplied the Zor-given GDP by it.

Voila. But it sure looks all nice and shiny and professional, now doesn't it? :)

Zablorg are you gonna die already, or do you plan to come back from the dead?

Mr Bean has made a good point about the robots and werewolf/fox thing. What do you guys think if we make some rules that will limit any more unreal/crazy/stupid things from appearing?

Posted: 2008-04-16 09:17am

I agree that we need to define or limit the stuff that can appear. We don't need zombies or vampires appearing next.

stupid stuff should not appear

There's enough real stupid stuff to make up unreal stuff.

Okay, everyone kinda reacted to robots, but after that, I hope we won't have it anymore.

P.S. Megafauna was not that stupid: this planet is different from ours so it's kinda plausible.

More to the point Megafaun used to exist in the real world it just died out before we really showed up on the scene.

Since it's a new world it's possible it's abit more primitive, remember Q-created this world from whole cloth, no humans lived here before because non-existed we have exactly one year of history on this planet so far

yeah, that's what I was thinking.

as a side note, did any of Zablania's territory remain after that?

If, as Zablorg says, it self-destructed, then I remove it from the map and thus it is gone

It's not going to sink into the ocean, it's just a total wasteland at this point
Speaking of which I need to write up an after-action report for the whole mess.

well, then let the MESS occupy it.

Lonestar didn't want to give it to Shady, so I suggest we give it to him

or just leave it be for anyone who wants to claim the territory... er... charred 7500 km^sq of wasteland.

EDIT: oh, Zablania used to be in the FUNGAL Axis, so probably they could use it... as a nuclear waste dump or something

but there was only ZABLORG in Zablania? He was the ONLY human, wasn't it so? :?

I guess Zablorg's nation with a "population of 1" conflicted with the OP rules, so we should consider OP rules taking priority here.

No, read the after action, the robots started killing everyone. There was a good 500,000 people in the country, toss in five million robots, they did not do so well.

I think one of the other FUNGAL nations should claim it. Because Lonestar has a problem with me owning 7500 km^sq of wasteland. :D

Are there any survivors? I would be willing to provide homes and jobes for them.

Now we have the perfect dump site for our nuclear waste! :D

And a nuke testing range, too.

I was gonna suggest Blastification's wasteland as a nuclear range, but we can use Zablania. International military exercises, ahoy!

And since Zablania used to be with the FUNGAL AXIS, the FUNGAL AXIS will have the responsibility of handling the land, I guess. No one wants to live there, but we can have a few outposts - sort of like how the UKB sort of owns Atlantis. Hold international military exercises and scientific experiments and such.

It'll be like an ugly version of Atlantis! Yay! You will pay the FUNGAL AXIS to dump your crap into Zablania!

This actually isn't that silly of an idea.. If many of us are going to go with Nuclear Power as our primarly source of Energy, we are going to be producing a LOT of Nuclear waste. Having an uninhabitated wasteland that we can ALL dump our leftovers would be a highly prudent thing to do. Especially as, if we put it all in one spot, we can better keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't slip into the wrong hands.

Whose up for proposing wee make an offical "World Nuclaer Deposity" for our waste?

Sure, FUNGAL will own the Zablania Waste Storage.

Using it for test range might not be that smart when we have miles and miles of ocean all ways round :)

I do, if New Patria Aeronautics gets the contract for the drones that patrol the island. :D
