True, but electronics wise, S. Korea is ahead. Other than that, S. Korea is more or less equal, except in certain areas for which I will concede.

Then again, my country is a bit of this and that. We believe in self-sufficiency. The only problems for us will be the random religious fanatics that pop up every now and then.

Wait. Any war over Shadow Empire is bound to have Byzantine intervention. Sure the war might turn into one bloody stalemate, but how is Shadow Empire going to fend off armies from all points of the compass?

I would be inclined to think that Shroomania and Byzantium shared many advances, all in the spirit of competition.

Yeah, we ought to be what France and Britain were in terms of competition.

I mentioned in my History that Canissia helped co-develop things like steam engines, submarines, and similar things-- it could be anything from helping to finance the work to contributing scientists, materiel, and/or research facilities to scientists who may have been working away from their native lands (perhaps because their ideas were ridiculed, or they held politically unpopular personal beliefs, etc).

Hrm... during this time, a lot of things were invented and/or discovered in many places at the same time.
