And maybe the Tsars stopped listening to their Patriarchs at the request of Raspushroom? :lol:

A Hippodrome sounds awesome, whatever the hell it is.

A hippodrome is like a Circus Maximus, but in Greek instead of Latin.

SiegeTank, I'm pretty sure Coyote said his nation was pretty much the first investor in Ironclads btw.

Yeah, coyote claimed Ironclads first. Besides, San Dorado was a pirate infested anarchistic shithole all the way untill the Industrial Revolution. It's pretty damn unlikely they could outrun stable countries when it came to things like naval technology, which is expensive as hell.

Though right now we seem to be mostly doing historicals and such, at some point I'd be very interested to know what aircraft designs people are making and what people are selling to the export market. I'd rather have my nation start with Mirages or what ever if someone is actually producing such desgns.

Edit: My arms industries are going to be experts at making lightly armoured and mine resistant vehicles, for one. That's at least partly because I'm going to be almost constantly embroiled in one brush war or another.

Well, I make my own weapons, all 2nd generation stuff like M-60s and M-113s. The aircraft are mainly 3rd generation. Sure I could afford better, but this way I don't have to import.

Personally, I'm wondering what kind of military aircraft I'm gonna adopt.

EVERYONE is going to be going for American warplanes, whereas Stas and a select few are going for Soviet/Russian stuff. I love the European designs myself, maybe I'll get Eurofighters and Grippens? :)

(But I want F-22s and F-15s, goddamn it!)

If someone other than me decides to use the European fighter plane designs, I'll be happy too. But SOMEONE must use em - they're too pretty! PeZook? Fingolfin?

I'm thinking of European designs myself, for variety if nothing else. The Grippen's ability to use any old road as a runway is also useful for my purposes. For 5th gen stuff like the F-22 I'd really like more than one manufacturer. This is a fictional universe after all, so there could be more than one or two designs on the market (maybe the MESS has a design and so does the FUN?)

Yeah, that's okay - I mean, many nations can share F-22s and F-15s without any real "owner" of the design.

It's cool that you're using Euro-tech. I hope SiegeTank and San Dorado does too. I love those European birds!

I was really hoping for an additional fictional design. Maybe something based on what the Russians are currentlly working on. Just f-22's for everybody is boring :) .

I'm going with whatever suits my needs. Likely, my initial air force will need serious beefing up since there's no way the point system will allow me to field the navy, air force and army I need.

I will likely go with F-15E, F/A-18E/Fs. For tanks, I will go with the Korean K-2 Black Panther. Some of my equipment will be Russian, Western, whatever suits my needs.

I was going to design Ace Combat-style superplanes in SDN World 1, to serve as a future replacement for the F-22 or something :)

Well, we ran out of time on our co-funded project in the last game, for reasons we all know.

That's a fair enough point. Scrap the ironclads, I'll stick with being the inventor of the skyscraper instead -- building big ol' brownstones to house masses of paupers whilst the wealthy elites live in gleaming art deco spires is, after all, right up my alley!
Shroom Man 777 wrote:Goddamn it, I'm gonna enjoy seeing Kulisky and Co. over at the RIS dick around in San Dorado's madness!
I should point out that the Board of Directors maintains several intelligence agencies - particularly the Central Bureau of Inteligence - that are really quite good at sniffing out foreigners mucking about in the city. There've been several incidents in San Dorado's past where newcomers incited trouble (for example, the Canissian communists mentioned in the history thread), and considering San Dorado's lax immigration laws the Board felt it prudent to have lots of people on the lookout for potential future spies, saboteurs and other fifth-columnists. The CBI might'n't care about the usual riots, but that doesn't mean they don't know who's instigating them. Despite the chaotic nature of the city 'dicking around' is much harder than it looks, because the CBI has informants and agents all over the place.

SAN DORADO FACTBOX

Did you know that in San Dorado there is no such thing as "illigal immigration"? There are only citizens and non-citizens, and everyone is totally free to come live in the city as they please. Non-citizens won't be deported as undesirables -- in fact, since they have no say whatsoever in how the city is run they are indeed a desirable workforce, because they can be moderately exploited without any problems! And of course it's quite possible to become a citizen... If you've got enough time, money and patience to burn on the neccesary bureaucratic hoops and bribes!

There, I've posted my history with more integration with other events already made public. Rather than re-post it, I'll go back and edit in changes. Let me know if anything needs changing.

I also propose some morphing of Earth words to make things more alien, and yet still recognizable. Let's try replacing the following religion and ethnic group words thusly:

ETHNIC GROUPS:
Caucasoids = Caucasians
Nubians = Africans/Blacks
Habiru = Hebrew/Jews (as ethnic group)
Aravi = Arabs
Espana = Hispanic

RELIGIONS:
Catoli = Catholic
Jesu = Christianity (all others, ie, "Protestant")
Indu = Hindu
Juidic = Judaism
Budhi = Buddhist

Also, ancient empires:

Qalquayyid Empire: a sort of Egyptian/Roman style empire of Bronze to Iron Age power, with roads, Pharoanic legions, animal-head gods, etc.

Can I get an answer on thisˇ?
I have a quick question. I want to make my OOB by using the spreadsheat that Coyote made so I need some help. The 210pts that Duchies get, is it like 210 for the Navy/210 for the Air Force and 210 for the Army or is it 210pts overall?

I like this idea. But lets not over do it. We wouldn't want it to become confusing.

Basing off of existing ones is easier to keep track of; that way we don't have to keep referring back to glossaries every time we post or read.

That doesn't look like a system I came up with-- I like nice round numbers; I'd do something with like 100 points apiece or something.

For a Duchy I'd go 300 points to be shared out by all, making it possible to have 100 points apiece... or, if the Duchy in question is landlocked, to beef up Army and Air Force procurement since Navy is obviously a non-issue (like with, say, Luxembourg or something like that).

I wonder if Yenchin's Mangka's history can tie in with Skimmer's Japistan. If Beowulf goes for another Tian Xia with another Huang Di Beowulf, it might be cool too. Japan analogues! Plus Shepistan and the Old Dominion being a Pakistan-India deal, we have our pseudo-Asia!
On my half I'm open to options :) . I chose a southern land since a lot of people have established most history in the north. Currently I'm not quite sure how to handle the <empire's> final fate in modern times. The <empire> is open to modification if anyone is willing to integrate it or be the modern version, or it becoming some NPC state(s).

Anyways...more history in the history thread before I have to crawl through this thread.

Then it must have been Beowulf. I think I'll go with this 300 points, 100 points for each. I'll work something out and then put it up here so you guys can decide if it's too much(or little). I'll still use the awesome spreadsheet you made.

I'm confused. :?
*punts Shady into the next hemisphere*

That's my spreadsheet, boy-o.

EDIT: Me and Beowulf collaborated on the point system (though Beo did the lion's share of the work on that) and I made up the spreadsheet. Just so everybody's clear on that.

And yeah, it is 210 points overall, which means if you split it evenly you could have 70 points in each category. Or more or less if you felt like it. And as stated, if you want to totally neglect a category (such as a Navy for a principally land-locked country) you can do that as well. Of course if you later decide to introduce a Navy (or whatever) it'll be a right bitch to do so from scratch.

Just punching it in you get 3 destroyers, 12 frigates, 20 corvettes and 7 diesel subs for 70 points.

On the Air Force side you'd get 48 4th Gen fighters, 6 Tac. Bombers, 4 Tankers, 2 Light AWACs, 80 Trainers, 32 Tac. Transports, and 8 Heavy Maritime Patrol aircraft.

I just threw in numbers for the Army without doing the whole regiment thing, but you can have 240 2nd Gen MBTs, 1800 2nd Gen AFVs, 64 Medium SP Artillery pieces, 80 Medium ADA units, 150 utility helicopters (some of which might be used for maritime roles), 24 attack helos, 48 light attack helos, 4000 professional infantry (your core cadre) and 22000 conscripts (universal draft?), 900 paratroopers, 1600 engineers and 120 "moderate" special forces.

Now all of these can of course be adjusted as you see fit (for instance, do you really need 3 destroyers and 12 frigates?) but in the end, this is far, far better than Duchies got last time around.

Sorry.

I used your spreadsheet but I took Coyote's suggestion and made it a 100 points each. Keep in mind that my understanding of all this military stuff is limited.

I'll post it now and you guys can be the judges.
