And to research on inhospitable climates, Shroomania will establish an Ice Station Walrus over at Antarctica.

Well, I have lots of space projects on the cards, the only thing lacking is a rocket to bring a fairly large mass up. In lieu of that, I'll just refine the requirements. The target is an IR telescope similar to the one that NASA, the ESA, and a few others are working on. Also, there's a ground based telescope, Very Large Array that's coming up in Anatolia. Probably will be ready in 2015-16.

And I should be able the announce the full operational status of my linear collider come next year after 5 years of construction (and over runs).

This could totally play right into everything.

Soon we shall end up with a headline that'll sound like this:

BYZANTINE SUBMARINER SAVES SHROOMANIAN SEAMEN FROM SUPER-SHARKS!

But, goddamn, Deep Blue Sea was an awesome movie!

Planned Air Wing for Future Langley Navy Aircraft Carrier

8 x A-6F Intruder [possible rebuild from existing A-6Es in storage; new-build preferable]
4 x KA-6F Intruder [possible rebuild from existing KA-6Ds in storage; new-build preferable]
8 x S-3C Viking [need to purchase]
4 x EA-6C Prowler [need to purchase]
4 x ES-3C Shadow [need to purchase]
4 x E-2D Hawkeye [need to purchase]
8 x MH-60R Seahawk [need to purchase]
4 x MH-60S Knighthawk [need to purchase]
I can hook you up with all that stuff. Not surprising considering I'm pretty sure you just used my air wing makeup anyway.

I'm already building stuff (or would be) since I'll be bringing a sixth carrier online in, um, whatever the sixth game year is (or is it seven? Hm...) so I could probably get you some of it fairly quickly actually. Whether 'used' (and thus cheaper) or new.

Wait, is it already the sixth game year? I've lost track.
Well, I go with what works.

Wilkens is going to hook me up with those MH-60s, so that takes care of those. That leaves the Intruders, Prowlers, Vikings, Shadows, and Hawkeyes. Concerning these planes, how much cheaper would used examples be compared to new builds?
I would say 20% I guess.

Speaking of prices, how do you people find all those? I have zero luck with that. :(
As for the game year, if 2008 is year zero, then we're in year five; year six would be 2014, which starts on 14 February RL time.
Ah, thanks for the info. Yay sixth carrier!
I'd like some details on the C-46 first before I can consider buying it.
Hm, depending upon when the C-46 comes about I'll no doubt go with that to replace my own Vikings and such. Which means you could either go with that if you want, or get S-3s and E-2s and all the rest at near bargain basement prices as I replace them.

Coyote, why do you need to expand your navy anywhoo? I totally don't get it. Why does everyone have to go with Runaway Defense Budgets?

We are expanding our influence around the world, so we need to expand our security as well.

Bear in mind that the only thing that IS going to happen is the building of the six small ships; the expansion of carrier groups hasn't been approved by Parliament yet. I haven't decided yet if I'm really going to do it or not, since, after all, there is no real need. A lot of it is economic, anyway-- keep the yards working.

I may change the spending to something else, like more support/cargo ships.

I'm also cutting down a huge Army footprint in Katangwaland, at the same time, after all.

The IRT, as a trading nation, requires that her trade lanes be highly secure. We also have to persuade reluctant debtholders to pony-up at times and we do have the danger of MESSAmerica to the north (no matter their protestations of peace and the current relaxed political climate, they do represent a clear threat). Our long-term interests in Velaria also require a presence. Thus, the IRT has the largest single-nation navy on the planet - and expanding. For example, IRT hopes to start transitioning to nuclear capital ships over time (carriers and cruisers).

As we are an island nation, we can afford to go with a much smaller army (albeit well-trained, heavily armed and now nuclear-armed). The vast air forces ready to defend against the MESS air armada are being reduced as better equipment and nuclear weapons begin arriving.

Finally, the IRT is now preparing an extensive space program that is rather more military in nature than most of the other ones (though the LERT will have significant civilian uses as well).

Essentially the entire MESSAmerica situation is forcing hgiher defense budgets on everyone. Lets walk through the logic chain:

- Wilkonian and IRT are long term rivals in that the former is a past colonial power that has fought its way back to relevance in the last century on the strength of its Navy securing ties with other MESS members while the later is a mdoern commercial giant based on its naval prowess protecting far flung ports and its own SLOC.
- Because Wilkonia has an enlarged navy for its purposes the IRT, has to counter with a sufficient deterrent force in terms of Air and Naval assets.
- Because WIlkonia can now no logner committ its Navy, despite being the world's largest, to protecting SLOC for the MESS the other nations have to up their naval expenditure to ensure sufficient capacity
- Because the MESS is expanding its naval forces this means that the CSR and other old continent powers feel threatened which leads to efforts within the SNC to seperate Byzantium form the MESS and to develop stronger IADS and Air Forces to counter the perceived MESS threat.

In other wrods if Wilkonia and the IRT actually believed that the other wasn't out to get them (we may be at peace but have fought a series of border skirmeshes which would make us the Russia/China of SDN World) then maybe somebody could stop responding with drastic improvements to their military forces which would lessen worldwide pressure...but it ain't gonna happen.

Actually, that makes me curious as to who has the larger navy - the IRT or Wilkonia.
