I was undecided on the A13. Then:
Victory!
Battle: Steppes Friday, November 02, 2012 9:17:27 PM
Vehicle: A13 Covenanter
Experience received: 8,625 (x5 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 30,433
Battle Achievements: Top Gun, Sharpshooter, Master Gunner
That was my last game by less than 200 xp. Then I ground a radio because I was having a good time.
Other silliness:
Victory!
Battle: Malinovka Friday, November 02, 2012 11:12:06 PM
Vehicle: M41
Experience received: 4,895 (x5 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 43,690
Notable for a 1100 damage roll with a 950 damage shell on a penetrating hit on a Tiger.
Victory!
Battle: Siegfried Line Friday, November 02, 2012 11:03:22 PM
Vehicle: Maus
Experience received: 7,325 (x5 for the first victory each day)
Credits received: 49,785
Battle Achievements: Steel Wall
3k damage, 13 hits taken.

Okay, I'm probably a weirdo but I really like the Matilda. Heavy armor, gun that can punch through a lot of things.
Makes me want to quote Sharpe. "I know you can fire three rounds a minute. The question is: Can you stand?"

Success! I finally got those shiny "M" badges on all the top tanks in my Service Record splash screen:

- 2012-10-30 Service Record-cropped.jpg (89.88 KiB) Viewed 3559 times
Unfortunately, I think it will be a while before I get any more Ace Tanker badges, because I have so many crappy stock Tier-9 tanks now. I was saving up all my Tier-9 upgrades for this bonus weekend, so in the space of two hours, I bought:
- T-54
- E-50
- IS-8
- ST-I
- Patton
- Object 704
That was a huge amount of credits to shell out at once though, even after reducing the costs by selling the previous-tier tanks I was upgrading from, so I basically used up all of my credits. And now the tanks are all stock, so they're all various degrees of shit

The 704's mostly elited if you had an elite ISU, so that might be a good starting point. The ST-I is at least armored, as is the E-50, so they've got something going. The T-54 has a good turret and should at least have an accurate gun, so it's not miserable. The IS-8 and Patton are both fragile and if I remember right missing a good number of key upgrades so they'll probably be the worst to get out of stock.
You've got some serious long term projects, but it should be amusing. Also, nice special medal collection. Actually got more of the name medals than I do (nice Radley-Walters').

The trick, as always, is to get the treads first, so I can mount a lot of the other upgrades that carry over from the previous tier. My ISU-152 was indeed elited, so the Object 704 should be golden once the treads are on and I have some more credits to spend on upgrades. I loved the ISU-152, and I'm hoping the Object 704 is just as enjoyable despite having the same gun at a higher tier. I found the ISU-152's
Doom Cannon to be almost as fun as the KV-2's hysterically amusing derp gun.
I know IS-8s never seemed all that tough when I was fighting them, so I'm not surprised to hear that they're a bit fragile, and the Patton seemed like it would be a tough grind just from looking at the research options.

You can tell that just by looking at the picture? I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Radley-Walters medal until I won it.

So, if you have a Mk1, you want the machine gun and nothing but, correct?

286mm is tier ten penetration by any standard. The 704 is a smaller chassis with noticeably better soft stats on the BL-10 of doom. The only thing missing is the treads, and while they're very nice to have they aren't nearly as crucial when the tank has enough penetration to deal with tier tens.
I'm relatively certain the T-54 can be fully upgraded without the treads, it has 4.7 tons to spare, and the E-50
might but check the math first, and in that thing's case you might want to consider the engine so it's actually a medium. The ST-I, Patton, and IS-8 all need tracks badly. The shame with the ST-I is that it'd be a great pick to grind the gun it shares with the IS-8 because at least it already has its armor, but you need to get it its tracks and turret first. May want to do that anyway since you'll need those modules regardless and it'll avoid some pain in the IS-8.
I know IS-8s never seemed all that tough when I was fighting them, so I'm not surprised to hear that they're a bit fragile, and the Patton seemed like it would be a tough grind just from looking at the research options.
The IS-8 is a fast heavy. It should be at least quick and reasonably agile, those are its main strengths, and at least all you have to work on is the treads and top gun to get it because of nice turret setup. The engine difference isn't that bad either so at least you'll be able to perform like an IS-3 with more HP and a better rate of fire. The Patton's a real pain though, because the Pershing's penetration is so anemic at tier nine, and if I remember right you need the treads to even use its top gun, and the nice mantlet of the fully upgraded Pershing is absent. On the plus side you don't need to upgrade turrets to get the gun. Small comfort, I know.
You've got some serious long term projects, but it should be amusing. Also, nice special medal collection. Actually got more of the name medals than I do (nice Radley-Walters').

Nahh, I cheated and looked them up in game.

I know some, like the Pascucci's and Brothers in Arms because I've won them recently.

I ran the 6 pounder and it's a verifiable inaccurate softball thrower, but it is funny when it hits. The machine gun's probably better though.

Why is it when I upgraded to the 128mm from the 105mm on my E75 I started losing miserably
I'm tempted to switch from American Mediums to the British Mediums, but I've already invested so much in the M26 grind and am a hair's breath away from the M46 :\

Yeah, the 6 pounder on the Mk 1 is funny, but the BESA is too good to pass up.
Also, who was it before who said the Mk 3s firepower didn't make up for its armour, you dirty liar. Between that, its aim time and the accuracy of the top gun its the best peek a boo tank in tier 3 and is hilariously good fun. Plus it's simply adorable. It has a face and it is smiling.

This is the reason why I should really never carry HE anymore. I went through my entire load of AP and HE in this match. It got to the point that I wanted to say "How does a Type 59 without ammo choose to die? At ramming speed."

Apparently being "smart" when in a inferior tank facing a completely superior one makes you "boring", me in my T-43 up against a KV-4; he takes one shot that takes out like a third of my health so I lure him into the buildings and play cat and mouse games of where whenever he rounds a corner he go around the opposite one until finally he's on my teams side of the building and gets hammered by my teams campers.
He called me out for being "boring" 0.o
Maybe he should go back to the wonderful sport of shooting fish in a barrel. ;)

A guy in a massive KV-4 should have known better than to expose himself to enemy fire while chasing a rabbit. I had a KV-4 (even had my best game in one), and you have to be painfully aware of your high visibility and low mobility at all times.
Regarding the people who say the A13 Covenanter is far and away the best tier-4, I've been driving one and I have to dispute that. Yes, it can uncork 200 dmg in a short time, but the terrible accuracy of its 40mm gun means that you have to be at point-blank range to do this. Even at a middling range, its accuracy is so poor that one or both shots in any given 2-shot burst might miss. The T-28's 57mm fast-firing gun has almost twice the penetration and far more accuracy so you can snipe if you want to, and it can keep up its 1889 dmg/min rate of fire on a steady-state basis, without pauses for cartridge reloads. It also has a power to weight ratio of 28 hp/ton: far superior to the A13's 19 hp/ton, and the two tanks have similar (weak) armour. The T-28 is no longer quite so overpowered as it was when it had the 85mm gun, but I still find it much easier to do well in a game with a T-28 than with an A13.

I really like the Matilda with the Littlejohn adapter (2pdr Mk. X-B, I think). They're probably going to tone the gun down, but right now it even outperforms the Soviet 57mm.

Does that gun actually aim back in by the time you're ready to fire the next shot? Some of the pure DPM cannons have serious issues with that.

I am well satisfied by its aim time. The aim isn't much longer than 2 seconds, the rate of fire is less than one round per two seconds.
It might be an issue if I get a rammer and a 100% loader; then I might be able to shoot faster than I can restabilize the gun. But I haven't had a problem with it yet.

Quick question...has anyone else ever gotten a Dumitru's Medal? I'm curious because I've heard its rather rare to get. Killing 4+ SPG's is rather hard to pull off after all
EDIT: In one battle that is. And I did it with my 3601 awhile back.

Only because your selfish arty won't let you do them all yourself in those 5+ a side arty games

The key with the A13 is that it's speed, low profile and small size generally allow it to get unmolested into excellent flank positions in built up maps, so that it can deliver that 200 damage combo at close range. At medium and long range, it gets away with getting the time to aim due to that ungodly -14 degrees of gun depression. And at the tiers it faces, nobody's going to be accurate enough to hit a tiny turret over a ridgeline.
Also, recoil doesn't seem to fully take effect if you just squeeze out all 4 shells immediately.

At the south spawn of Province there are a set of bushes in front of the house on the cliff. Park in them and no-one can see you because province is low tier only everyone has no view range, but you can shoot the whole map with impunity.

I personally like the Matilda better than the A13.
Also, xthetenth - the 2 Pounder X's aim time isn't fast enough to let the gun come back to full aiming before the next shot comes up. But it is fast eough that you can still pump shells at almost full speed anyway.
