That being said, I send off five of the less exhausted, and more experienced soldiers to the next town/towns to call for help from the Army and to bring back the women and children.

After that I go back to the Inn, sit down with Grozny, and order me Quoth and Spark some good food.

I sit down at the table, keeping the chair besides me free for Tsaroth, and order myself a large portion of food.
"So, do we wait here for more Kobolds, or do we make for New Kecksburg?"

"It may be a good idea to search the near forest to see if theres any kobolds nearby, but if the nations soldiers are on their way, the town should be safe. After that we best move onto New Kecksburg."

"The more we stay out of that...forrest, the better it is I think.But a short visit might be good. If we find kobolds to kill..."

When I enter the Inn I say, "I sent riders out to get help from the Army, when they come here they'll bring the women and children back."

I order Spark diced steak, bacon, and whatever else he wants. "We'll wait till the Army gets here, then we'll head to New Kecksburg. (assuning that I know about the note) WE don't even know what they meant in that note, for all we know they might be in line for a catering job there next week."

Sure we know what it means, it a very simple code.

"...What? Care to explain it for me?"

"Well think, they had to write out New Kecksburg, they couldn't write it in code. That means it's can't be somthing where they substitute one letter for another, or scrable the letters or somthing. It has to be a word substitution, where each letter or group of letters is preplanned to be equal to a word of group of words. Good spies would memorize those conversions and then distroy any written records, but if the kobolds were good at this we wouldn't have gotten that letter. So, a book with all the conversions is probally floating around somwhere, most likely in their leaders pocket, so all I had to do was mentally prod him to take it out, and then that's it."

*there is a short pause*

".......what?"

Tsaroth looks at the cat, with a single eyebrow raised

"And, how will you go about mentaly proding him?"

"Would, not will, I allready have. It occured to me that whoever these kobolds work for are mages. So I used a sending spell and pretended to be them, it wouldn't have worked on anyone who thought it out, but a commander organizing a panacked retreat from crushing loss isn't going to pause to think things out. The exact message I sent was 'Defeat has come, you have failed us. Send coded message to New Kecksburg, warning your arrival. Sent it now, await further orders.' Granted, I was lucky, but it paid off."

*there is another short pause*

"Why does everyone stare like that when I talk?"

After I finish speaking I start petting spark, and order anything that he wants from the menu.

"As for getting the code book, that's the problem, we don't. I only got a glance at it when he took it out to write the message. So I only saw some of the words. Ignoreing the stuff that's still in code, it distels down to "blank arrive blank evacuate blank ships blank blank calvelry blank New Kecksburg. New Keck is a port city, so i'm guessing their going to try and flee up the river."

*pause*

"Would you quit stareing?"

After I finish speaking I start petting spark, and order anything that he wants from the menu.

Spark purrs.

"Then we should make as fast as we can to New Kecksburg, and try to stop them there."

"I agree, we will head out tomorrow then?"

Spark: *purrrrr* Why cut them off? We have horses, they don't. Let them escape, then we can follow the ships back to their home port.

"As soon as we'Re ready. And after a good nicht," he grinned at Tsaroth. "Will you take a horse for yourself, or should I take you with me? Still have place on my horse..."

"Sneaking aboard their ships would be prudent... however, we would want to get there ahead of them, maybe not take them as they flee"
