New Dragon Age Info

Post by Arrow »

1up has some new info on Bioware's Dragon Age, which is the cover story for the first issue of Games for Windows. The screen shot in the article is almost maxed-out and modded-out Oblivion quality. Other tidbits: using a conversation system similar to Mass Effects, and the new rule system will be "sticking close" to D&D rules. And you can run between the legs of large creatures and jump on their backs. I can't wait to see how this game turns out.
Artillery. Its what's for dinner.

What? New info on Dragon Age? I had started thinking that game was just a lengthy practical joke Bioware was playing on us. It's about bloody time!

Sorry for the necro, but this is new info. Dragon Age will include AEGIA PhysX. That's kind of surprising for an RPG, but it makes it even more likely that the graphics will be top-notch (eg., particle and smoke effects).

Not really. A good physics engine that enables the player to really do something imaginative with their character is the next big step for RPGs.

RPGs up til now have largely been about finding the right order to press buttons in to open the food tray. It can seem a lot like roleplaying at times, but you're never actually interacting with the world beyond a conversation tree and a fist. Proper physics, that lets people actually play with the gameworld, opens up far more solutions to every situation up to and including ones the developers couldn't possibly have thought of.

If it's got enough things that the player can affect with the physics, Dragon Age will be the sexiest RPG since Fallout. (plus, on the strength of Jade Empire, Bioware's in house IP seems to be pretty well crafted. I enjoyed that world far more than the dribbly arse end of Star Wars)
