How do I stop my browser remembering input?

It's a neat thing, when it's something like a login or email address - but it's not so good when it's your credit card number. It's not a real problem for me as I'm the only one with access to this computer, but is it possible to control what information in cached in this way?

If you have Firefox 2.0 or later, you can use Tools->Clear Private Data. The settings are under Tools->Options->Privacy->Settings; you'd want to tick "saved form information" and "cache".

I have FF set to delete everything apart from cookies and selected passwords on shutdown.

I have those settings, but I just filled in a form and the first number of my credit card prompted it to 'helpfully' show me the rest of it. Good for me, not always such a good idea.

Is there something you do to purge all the saved stuff like that on shutdown?

Was it a site you used before? It may be stored on their end.

When I shut down FF, not the PC -

Tools->Options->Privacy->Always clear my private data when I close Firefox

In Firefox, scroll down onto the relevant "finished number" with the arrow keys, [shift]+[delete].

Bounty almost had it. The right setting is:

Tools > Options > Privacy > History > "Remember what I enter in forms and the search bar"

Needless to say, you'll be unchecking that box.

If that doesn't do it, I have no idea. It worked for me.

I like to keep that active during sessions for when I'm googling stuff.

And I like to use it, too. It has its uses. You'll agree, though, that having it remember your credit card number isn't a good one, for some people at least.

Hence the "during sessions". When I'm done, I close FF and all that credit card info is magicked away...
