Hard Drive question/ Graphics Card query

This was originally one thing, but as I was writing I realised something else interesting...

As part of a recent last-ditch campaign to make my current rig last a bit longer before I buy a new motherboard and cpu (and, eventually, a whole new comp) I've taken an old 60GB hard drive from my cupboard of computer bits and hooked it up to increase storage. However, several issues are apparent:

1. Although I have a 400w PSU, startup reports that the floppy drive isn't detected. It's still present in My Computer, but coupled with another warning that said my 'Nvidia graphics card isn't receiving enough power', I'm guessing this means the HD is sucking too much power. The other things I have connected are a DVD drive, a CD-RW drive, the 120GB HD, the 7600GS graphics card...
2. The disk is partitioned into 3 sections; 1 is called MS-DOS, is FAT32 and is 2GB, the other 2 are 27.5 GB and are NTFS. I want to re-combine the disks, so how do I do this? I've formatted them already.

Ok, second thing is that as I was checking what was connected to my PSU, I realised that one of the things that isn't actually connected is my 7600GS - I must have forgotten to connect it while installing it. Previously, when this card was installed my comp would hang after playing a game for a while. I've put this down to a dodgy motherboard, although the GeForce 4 I've been using as a backup works fine. I've just played Doom3 for the past 6 hours with no problems at all. Exactly how does this make any sense? Surely the power is kind of necessary? Why does the problem STOP when it isn't connected to the PSU? :shock:

The signal that your GPU isn't getting enough power is almost certainly coupled with the fact that you don't have it plugged into the PSU. Also, you almost certainly aren't running out of power at startup, because your GPU at full load will take more power than your HDD will.

You'll have to delete the partitions and create a new partition which spans the entire hard drive. Then format the new partition.

I've disconnected the second HD, but am still getting the 'floppy drive not detected' message. I've checked the cables and it is properly connected, so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Is there any explanation for why, when I connect the GPU to the power unit, it causes this overheating-type hanging problem?

Also, I didn't create the partitions on the disk, so I'm not sure how it's done... Any help?

Computer Management -> Disk Management

Right click the partitions and click "delete partition", do that for all of them, then right click on the unallocated space and select "Create Partition".

As for the video card chicanery, it's possible that you're overtaxing your power supply. What brand is it and how many amps can it push on the 12v rail?

I had a thread on buying it a while back...

After a short adventure involving electrocution, I think the spare hard drive is now good to go, although somewhere along the way I've picked up some sort of floppy drive glitch...

As it stands, I guess I'll have to just run the GPU at 'reduced capacity', how much so I'm not sure, but Doom3 runs fine on Ultra so...
