What Ancient god would you wish to have real?

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

Im not sure if this should be here or in Fantasy, but...

If you had the ablitiy to make Any ancient god from the countless myths, what or whom would you create? Keeping in mind the god, goddess, demi god, etc, would behave exactly as depicted in the myths written of him/her.

Easy question. Cthulhu.

That aside, Prometheus.

I'm not allowed to pick Belldandy?

All ancient gods have some kind of rationalisation for why they aren't actively, visibly making the world a better place. Either they don't care, or they aren't powerful enough, or there's some other force resisting them. I'd pick a compassionate and powerful god who was unable to do more to help because of opposition from the rest of their pantheon, but would presumably do lots of good if they found themselves to be the only deity around. I'd have to do some research to find the best candidate. Though frankly I'd be extremely dubious about giving any single being with humanlike psychology that much power.

<BAD ANIME> OTOH maybe I'd just instantiate Inari and ask him to send me a harem of kitsune/foxgirls as a reward. </BAD ANIME>

For me, it would be a toss-up between Asclepius and Athena.

Prometheus is easily the best of the Ancient Greek Gods/Titans. Probably due to the lack of screentime to get upto what the rest of the ancient greek gods got upto. :P

I'm tempted to say Bhaal, the arch nemesis of Yawheh just for the humour but with a more serious hat on I would have to say Prometheus.

We're his special pet project, and he wants to see us become much cooler than Epymepheus' creations. He seems like someone not too afraid of mankind's progress to give us gifts.

Of course the consequences of Prometheus existing are wide reaching - we didn't evolve and the sun is actually a big ball of fire but we'll side step that.

I'd go for either Prometheus or Bes; in no small part because I just reread Eric Flint's Pyramid Scheme and I like them in it.

Hmmm, Prometheus seems like a good choice. He could give us new technology, he wasn't really a dick, all good stuff.

Alternatively, Gozer the Gozerian, The Traveller, The Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, Lord of the Sebouillia. What can I say? I am a total Ghostbusters fanboy. :P

Jesus. Because it'd be amusing to see him react to his followers, and he's a decent guy.

I would pick Athena if it wasn't for Arachne...

My pick would have to be either Bes or Hare. Helpful gods, don't really require worship, and not likely to mess up the world.

I'm under the impression that Pallas Athene and Apollon might both be decent picks. They both have character flaws (Athene did turn Arachne into a spider because she was jealous of Arachne's weaving skills, for example) but were usually compassionate and actually friendly towards humanity. Prometheus even more so (he had the best interest of humanity in mind, it seems, when he stole fire from the gods and brought it to humanity).

Jesus Christ would also be an amusing pick, as has already been noted in this thread.

For some reason, I can't think of any particular Finnish deity to pick, despite that many of them were quite benevolent when compared to Nordic gods (so far as I am aware they didn't have any particular desire for war, for example, and weren't that bloodthirsty anyway). Tapio, god of forests, was usually considered more or less benevolent, and the god of agriculture Sampsa Pellervoinen (if I remember the name correctly).

Sif, any other is a stupid idea, why? She's a busty nordic Chick whom I might persuade to leave Thor in favor of my self.

I have to ask this. Are you serious? You'd have to be some sort of psychopath to bring Slaanesh into the world. Srsly, wtf!? Although, I suppose it's better than bringing Khorne or Nurgle...

I'd have to say I'd choose Horus or Pre-evilsumbitch Set. Horus was god of the Skies and eventually of the Sun and the Moon also. Seriously, that's just badass. Also, he stomped the heck out of Set, who had previously kicked the crap out of Osiris, and was once the Guardian of Ra. Although Egyptian mythology can get slightly confusing, as it was often ret-conned, so to speak. But Horus was always a good guy, he had the head of a Falcon, and he kicked ass.

I figure he'd make a good superhero or something.

Probably Baldr. He was supposed to be an all-around nice guy, beloved by all (except Loki.) Seems nonthreatening and basically benevolent.

You'd cause the entire world to explode through sheer please :P. The term is "Going out through your head exploding due to sheer orgasmic joy" .
Not a bad way for the local galactic arm to go :D .

You have quite the "Crispy charred lightning" Death wish don't you :P .

I'd choose the God Emperor of Man, he was a real god after all :P . (Though failing that it'd be a toss up between Prometheus, Athena or maybe Odin).

Jesus and Kokopelli. Preferably as lovers. That'll cause an amusing amount of headasploding.

And Doof, you're fucking nuts if you want the Emperor. He's more right-wing than Bush, Cheney, Pinochet, half of American talk radio, and Hitler combined!

If we can chose fictional gods, I think I'll choose Eriond. He sounds like a pretty nice guy, from what I read in the Malloreon. (granted, Edding's writing went downhill after that)
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Jesus, for the reasons mentioned above, would be a good choice. If we're allowing fictional deities, I'd have to go with Aulë, Arda's god of engineering.

On the other hand, the GEoM at the moment has no crusades to go on because humanity isn't spread across the stars in pockets and minor empires, we're all still here. He was a militant secularist and innovated technology in a big way, he could be quite good for us, especially if Chaos doesn't exist. There's a lot less to for him to deal so harshly with, then. The Emperor, given a universe where drastic measures are required nigh-constantly would probably be a pretty decent guy.

If one of the ancient gods is made real, you'd want it to be someone we can kill if necessary.
