Don't know how many people will still be playing it but some clever chap over at ArsTechnica has, for the past few weeks, be re-writing alot of the shader code for Stalker. He's finished it now and released it for download.
News item with links and screenshots here.
I've tried them and they make a big difference by making the lighting effects in the game far less plastic looking and adding alot more natural looking reflections (particularly obvious in urban areas). They apparently also help a great when running the game on Vista (can't confirm that myself). They also cause no significant performance loss at all.
I'll try and do some screenshot comparisons when I get home - though I only have a GF7950. It would be cool to see a comparison from someone running one of the GF8 series.
Out of interest for the people still playing it what other mods are you running now? I just have the real gun names mod and a mod that fixes lots of sound bugs (repetitive speech from people in the bar) and adds a few new sounds for gun switching and backpack use. I wanted to get a repair mod of some sort, but haven't found one that seemed suitable yet.
