Why a separate canon for the television series, but not for video games?regarding the 3d clone wars cartoon and the live action star wars tv series, are they g-canon or c-canon?
So far I'm using the term T-canon for the upcoming animated series and live-action series. Nothing prior is being considered T-canon.
New canon level?

New canon level?
I'm not sure if this warrants a new thread or not, but Chee mentioned this in the Holocron continuity database:
Re: New canon level?
At a guess, 'cause it's not as "official" as the movies, which are Star Wars, but it's way more official than the things Lucas isn't directly involved in, which is the EU. It's somewhere in-between.Mange wrote:Why a separate canon for the television series, but not for video games?

Indeed, but how long before the hardcore EU fanwhores start bitching about the lack of "zomg referances!"? They'll wonder where their victory class SDs and dildo cruisers went.Stark wrote:So the show will feel free to run rampant over the EU, but is overridden by the movies/novelisations/etc? Hell no. The Victory doesn't look like an "older" star destroyer, without a size comparison I actually thought it was a new type of star destroyer. And look! It's got wings for atmospheric flight! Yes, you read that correctly! I'll take my straight-from-Lucasfilm Venator any day thank you.Warsie wrote:You don't like Victories or Rendili StarDrive Dreadnaughts?CaptHawkeye wrote:Indeed, but how long before the hardcore EU fanwhores start bitching about the lack of "zomg referances!"? You know, just because you suspect that the canon level of the new TV shows will supercede that of the rest of the EU does not mean that it will be completely disregarded, whether you want it to be or not. Besides, the live-action program is evidently going to be positioned chronologically in such a way that direct conflicts with major EU plotlines are unlikely, simply because there is almost nothing between ROTS and ANH, excepting a few obscure comics, video game missions, and older novels. I suspect that the show's producers will make some attempt to include references to the rest of the established canon, although I do not expect nor particularly wish for them to bend over backwards to do so.CaptHawkeye wrote:Indeed, but how long before the hardcore EU fanwhores start bitching about the lack of "zomg referances!"? I'm confident we won't see any of those garbage scows when Lucasfilm's designers are capable of so much better.

I suspect that the whole T-Canon classification is more along the lines of "for internal purposes, we're putting them here by themselves until we figure out where they should go later," rather than a brand-new level.

That makes sense, insofar as it goes. But why spend the time and effort neccesary to invent a new canon level, instead of just shoving it into an existing one?Spanky The Dolphin wrote:I suspect that the whole T-Canon classification is more along the lines of "for internal purposes, we're putting them here by themselves until we figure out where they should go later," rather than a brand-new level.

It would be good if they could also replace the S and N canon levels with an A-level instead. Because then we could say:
"We have these levels of canon; G, T, C, and A. From these four, all information in the Star Wars universe can be derived."
And that would be awesome

How much time and effort do you seriously think would be involved?Master_Baerne wrote:That makes sense, insofar as it goes. This isn't drafting publication for a new book. For all we know, it could just involve creating a text file and saying "for X amount of time, all Y material goes in Z category."

It seem like it would be more effort to create that rule, instead of saying "for X amount of time, all Y material goes in the video game category" or something like that.Spanky The Dolphin wrote:How much time and effort do you seriously think would be involved?Master_Baerne wrote:That makes sense, insofar as it goes. You see, now I think that what you're suggesting would take more effort and time. What particularly makes the T classification easy is that the TV shows haven't been made yet, and it'll be less complicated to just put them wherever LF eventually decides they'll go, compared to reorganising something that's already organised and integrated into material. And I don't see why the games are so frequently regarded as being complicated in their canonicity issues, when they're really not.

Got it. To be more precise, I think they're saying "for X amount of time, both new television series will be temporarily classified as T-Canon, for internal purposes, until we fully decide what proper Canon categories they should go under."
