Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword

Post by Rightous Fist Of Heaven »

So, has anyone else yet gotten hold of the next Civ 4 expansion? Been playing it for a few odd hours now and so far I'm impressed. There is a doublewide fuckton of content in this expansion pack. They actually hired some of the modders from Civfanatics to create mods that would ship built-in to Beyond the Sword. One of the mods is full-blown Civ 4 in space with its own tech tree, units and buildings. Planets are substituting cities and so forth.

The second mod I've tried adds a new tech-era to the regular BtS game and some units that come with that era. There is actually a unit called Dreadnaught that resembles a Bolo waay too much. In addition to the Bolo..err Dreadnaught, this mod comes with Assault Mech's, Cyborg
Infantry, Clones and Biological Warfare Missiles.

I havent yet had time to take a more in-depth look at the changes to combat and the addition of Corporations, but I'll pitch in more info as I proceed further in my current game.

Some info about the exp. pack

Unfortunately it does not come out here until the 23rd, but I plan on buying it then.

I plan on eating it in excitement and then buying another copy the moment it's released.

I hear the warlords extras are all included with it? In which case that saves me having to buy it, because the warlords scenarios don't bother me over much. :)

Civ in Space? That's called 'Call to Power', where the first person who starts churning out orbital bombers wins by leveling all cities on Earth.

However, the mod in BtS is literally Civ 4 turned to Space Empire building. Complete with star fleets of doom etcetera.

Can you choose how big the space map is? If not then how big is it?

Also, is it good?

Yeah, you can choose the size of the map, density of star systems, density of space features and density of dangerous features. Huge map size is the largest. Its not a bad mod, a bit too simplified since its not actually a full blown game in itself but rather a modification of the base Civ 4. Fun to play for a while but it wont really grab your attention as well as the regular BtS with the New Era mod which adds an additional few units and technologies to the BtS base game.

I just assaulted the Indian Empire's continent with riflemen, cannon and rifle cavalry except in addition I had a fleet of Zeppelins providing support and bombing their cities with impunity ahead of my advance.

Regardless of any other features this expansion pack has it is awesome based on one simple, universal truth- all games that contain rigid airships are made of win.

Think about it:

Codename Eagle? check
Crimson Skies? check
Red Alert 2? check
Rise of Legends? check

I could go on...
