Cry of Defiance

Post by HemlockGrey »

What is the coolest sounding battle cry, rallying call, or shout of defiance you've ever heard or heard of, in fiction or real life?

Of course, the famous 'I'm INVINCIBLE!' just HAS to make the list. And then there's the 'Give me liberty, or give me death!' line, which I like.

I think Theoden's bit in TTT- 'Now for wrath, now for ruin...' was pretty cool as well.

The Rebel Yell. It made Federals run and soil themselves for a good while. Anothe one would be General Armistead that waved his hat on his sword screaming "CHHHHARGEEEEEE!!!" at the high water mark of Pickett's Charge.

I always liked the old line (not really a battle cry)
"Cry havoc and let loose the dogs of war"

Though I did know one guy who when sparring used
"spoons!!!"
as a battle cry....it did have the consequence of making your opponent go
"What the FUCK?!" just before you knocked them clean on thier ass...

The wordless battlecry of Orc warchief Grom Hellscream. He takes a deep breath, then roars at the top of his lungs for over a minute.

I can think of a few. Braveheart had a couple: the "Sons of Scotland" speech and that last scream of "Freeeeeedommmmm!!!" When I was working in the mall, we had that on CD and would crank it up and play it right at closing time over Christmas. Also, Ivanova's "I am the right hand of death" speech from Season 5 of Babylon 5.

On a personal note, when I played "Werewolf, the Apocalypse" I was fond of charging into battle with a grand klaive brandished high, screaming "For Gaia!" (Silver Fang ahroun... 'natch.)

Godzilla: SKREEEEOOOOONNK!

Other than that, gotta go with URAH! or possibly Xena's Yodilling(SP?) battelcry.

"Your ass is mine"- I know I've heard it, don't remember where

Of course, whenever I'm fighting, I'm almost totally silent...no sense in allowing my enemy to know whether I'm exerting a lot of energy or conserving for later. My Aikido sensei loved my fighting style. Grand Master Choe (Tae Kwon Do) doesn't like it so much.

How about WORST call to arms? I vote for "let's do some good", from Elliot Ness in "The Untouchables".

Best:

"Autobots.....Roll Out" (a classic by Optimus Prime)

"Now you will know the horror!" (Goku's famous cry before the Freiza Fight)

"ITs Clobberin' Time" (if you don't know, then I weep for you)
"If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little."
-George Carlin (1937-2008)

"Have some of you Americans actually seen Football? Of course there are 0-0 draws but that doesn't make them any less exciting."
-Dr Roberts, with quite possibly the dumbest thing ever said in 10 years of SDNet.
