Question is now, how the hell do I add a sharp edge to that without making it too sharp? Is there a simple way? Do I use the straightline tool? This problem is probably the biggest one I have with digital art.

Just done did this in about an hour:

Not sure precisely what you mean, but I think you can get something that looks decent if you select all of the background, expand the selection by a pixel or so, adding a bit of feathering and just clipping the edge of the drawing.
If it was me I'd just add a thin stroke around the whole thing or a simple drop shadow.
