A Fistful of Titans (40k)

Post by Kuja »

Having recently reread the novel Iron Hands by Jonathen Green, I started wondering how things might be altered if, rather than losing them to the fires of the Exterminatus and circumstance, the Imperium had managed to sink its claws into a pair of Titan armies.

Here's the sitch.

In Iron Hands, the Imperium's forces discovered the Tomb of the Ironclad, a massive armory holding the Ironclad Legion, which consisted of:

1 Imperator-class Titan, the Deus Mortum
16 Warhound-class
24 Reaver-class
40 Warlord-class

In the book, the Word Bearers nearly wrested the Legion from the Iron Hands, forcing them to bombard the planet and destroy the trove before the Archenemeny seized it.

In this altered situation, the Word Beaers make a wrong turn in the warp and end up on the far side of a galaxy. By the time they make it back, the Imperium has arrived in force, subjecated the Ironclad Legion, purged the whispers of Chaos from their systems, made them battle-ready, and shipped them off to recieve their crews.

While we're at it, let's throw in the massive Titan army seen in Dark Adeptus. In this book, a massive force of Titans had been created on the planet Chaeroneia by the Dark Aduptus, with the aid of the monstrous Castigator Titan. Compsed of "hundreds" of Titans roughly corresponding the Reaver and Warhound patterns, they ended up being destroyed when the biggest dumbfuck in the entire Black Legion bombarded them into dust because...well...he was angry. Or something. Let's say that instead of what really happened, Brother-Captain Fuckhead plows his ship into one of the other members of his flotilla, disabling both ships and leaving them easy prey for the forces of the Imperium. The Mechanicus inspects the army of, let's say three hundred Titans and destroys one-third of them as being irreperably courrpted by the forces of Chaos, leaving 50 Reavers and 150 Warhounds to get off the surface of the planet.

Once armed for battle, the Ironclad Legion and the powerful army of Chaeroneia are sent to combat Abaddon's forces in the midst of the 13th Black Crusade.

Can this many Titans make a difference in the front lines?

If they're well deployed, and as the campaign's general of armies was Logan Grimnar, I see no reason why they wouldn't be, they might well mean Chaos loses many of its battles on the ground, too, turning the campaign into a rout.

It's not garunteed, of course, but it could potentially turn the tide of some of the bigger battles.

The titan teleporter might be even more of an asset, though.
