Do I need ifo files?

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

I just downloaded a torrent of a TV show that is not available on DVD. The files are .vob, and each movie has a corresponding bup or ifo file. When I put all 60+ episodes in one folder, it's going to create a problem, as none of the bop or ifo files are given any more detailed names than 1,2,3 or 4, given each folder has only four episodes. The episodes themselves are named that way as well, so I'm going through renaming them.

Now, it I need those extra files, that means I should rename them, but I really don't want to go through all that again. So do I need those bup and ifo files to play the vob file?

IFO files provide extra information to your player application. You don't need them to play the episodes, but if you want to know what the alternate soundtracks are, or the various subtitles languages, it'd be helpful to keep them. Of course, IFO files are a feature of DVDs...

Yeah, it's Friday the 13th: The Series. This is obviously from a bootleg DVD that someone recorded off of TV, as it has the Scream Network logo in the corner.

And as I am happy with the audio provided and don't need subtitles, I'll go ahead and delete them.
