I have a problem concerning my monitor. The top left-hand corner of the display flickers. Constantly. It's extremely distracting. It started months ago after I forcibly quit Battleships Forever during a crash. It dumped me back to the desktop, set the resolution to 1024 x 768 (My chosen resolution is 1152 x 864) and the display started flickering.
At first I was able to solve this by changing the refresh rate but that failed to have any effect as it returned again after a few weeks. Re-installing the video card drivers also seemed to be successful but then it reared its ugly head once more. Now, nothing I do seems to have any effect.
The thing is, when I plug the monitor into other systems, it's perfectly fine. There is no flickering whatsoever.
My monitor is a Hitachi CM28 20 inch CRT model. The videocard is a Radeon 9200SE Atlantis. Can anyone please help me with this? Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated as I have exhausted all options.

Hmmm.... the plug-into-other-computers comment makes this unlikely, but I had similar symptoms on a Samsung 17" a couple of years back and that required replacing some parts to fix it - luckily, it was still under warranty at that point.
Maybe the card got fried? Try connecting another monitor to your PC and see what happens.

Personally, I do feel that it is a video card issue because I can see the flickering even when it boots up.Netko wrote:Hmmm.... the plug-into-other-computers comment makes this unlikely, but I had similar symptoms on a Samsung 17" a couple of years back and that required replacing some parts to fix it - luckily, it was still under warranty at that point.

However, I did just manage to once again get rid of the problem by changing the refresh rate (back and forth between a lower setting and a higher one), but there's no telling how long that will last. I can still see the flickering in certain games. It's a stop gap solution at best.
I agree on the vid card. Change cards. Take one from another computer and try it out. If it stops flickering after a certain amount of time then you know it is time to change cards.
