PS3 question.

Post by Enigma »

Is there a way to increase the HD capacity on the PS3? I want to get one soon but I'd like to know if I can increase the HD space.

Last I heard there was an 80gb and a cheaper one with a significantly smaller HD and no backwards compatability.

*Scratches ass then sniffs the finger* Duh? Connect it to the computer? Use it for extra storage?

You can plug in USB hard drives, but a) they have to be formatted with the FAT32 filesystem, NTFS or ext2 won't work, and b) AFAIK you can only store media files on them, not games. You can swap out the internal drive with any other 2.5" (laptop) hard drive with a screwdriver, but that voids your warranty (and you'll need some additional cables, a PC and technical competence if you want to keep your save games).

You want to change the drive on your PS3, thus fucking the warranty, so you can use it for extra storage? You're fucking retarded: just put the drive in your actual for-serious computer, and have the PS3 hit the content over the network. PS3 has both wireless and RJ-45, you know. My 360 has access to 300GB of media, and it still has a warranty (good fucking thing too I'm on 360 number 4).

Yes, the procedure is detailed in the manual. The new drive has to be a 2.5" SATA.

Yes; it's a standard SATA 2.5" laptop drive. User-replaceable.

But beware that the 40 GB PS3 lacks the hardware inside for PS2 backwards compatibility, and there's no way to get that back if you buy the cheaper PS3.
