Got to love florida....

Post by MKSheppard »

So I was in Vero Beach Florida the last couple of days visiting my grandmother for christmas; and I read in their local papers about the latest evolution in the saga of voting machines.

Indian River county is now having to buy and deploy their second set of voting machines in eight years -- first set was a bout $2 million to buy electronic touch screen voting machines like we have up in Montgomery County; after the state of Florida passed a law banning paper ballots.

Fast forward a couple of years; and Indian River is having to throw away the near-brand new machines yet again after the State passed a law banning touchscreen voting machines; so they're having to spend another $600-700,000 to buy new optical scan ballot stuff; they sold all their old booths on auction for $10 to $50 each, and are now having to buy all new booths for $200 and upwards.

Idiots. That's a nice chunk of change which could have been used somewhere else, like oh; I dunno, improving schools; or having a really shitty road repaved.

Florida never banned paper ballots. I voted on paper ballots in 2004 and 2006 - one in Polk County, the other in Orange County. If Indian River scrapped their machines, it was a county electoral board decision, not a state-wide law.

I don't recall paper ballots ever being banned. I know Brevard, where I lived, used the optical scan method. Those seem to be the best option since the elderly and retards can't seem to operate anything with a keypad, let alone a touchescreen, and there is a paper ballot left for recounts.

There was a big controversy at one point because the former Orlando Mayor (who I always have called simply "The Cunt") who was appointed to Katherine "The Ghoul" Harris's old job was refusing to mandate a paper trail for electronic voting machines.
