Hilton 'pledges fortune to charity'
Paris Hilton's grandfather Barron Hilton has apparently said he will give about 1.2 billion dollars to charity.
According to the Associated Press, the hotel heir said in an announcement he will donate the money to the Conrad N Hilton Foundation, a charity founded by his father six decades ago.
Any such move would mean Paris Hilton losing a considerable part of her expected inheritance.
The funds will reportedly come from this year's sale of the Hilton Hotels Corp. and the pending sale of Harrah's Entertainment.
It seems the money will go into a trust but eventually will find its way to the foundation.
The charity apparently said Paris' grandfather also intends to leave the bulk of his net worth to the foundation when he dies.
At present, he is worth an estimated 2.3 billion dollars.
Jerry Oppenheimer, author of a 2006 book about the Hiltons, has said the hotel magnate is embarrassed by the behaviour of his socialite granddaughter.
The 80-year-old Hilton has never publicly commented on Oppenheimer's remarks.
Let the people dance in the streets, for the spoiled rich whore has lost her vast fortune and instead the money will be put to good works.

Part of her vast fortune. She'd still have enough left - especially if you add the cash that'd have to be flowing in for merchandise - to keep partying until the sixth or seventh facelift.
She's out a billion plus dollars, second she's not on the board or and officer of the charity. Third, the rest of the family hates her.
Fourth, while there are plenty of members of the Hilton family in the charity, they don't have active control of it, and it is a non-profit organization and bound by the laws therein, this is not a dodge non-profit fund, but an actual origination that does give quite a few million dollars away each year.
Fifth, FYI she is not involved with the charity in any way, and did I mention the rest of the family hates her?
While it's not a billion dollars to Cancer research, it's not a billion dollars to a spoiled rich whore.

I've noticed this trend has been expanding lately. Namely, the Warren Buffet School of Child-Rearing: You give them a decent life growing up, a decent education, and then give them a few pennies, and donate the rest.

I think what was posted before was that he was removing her from any inheritance money completely which was shown to be false before. Now it is just a portion. Whether it's true or not, I will wait to see.

It doesn't matter anyway, even if it's true. She has plenty of money on her own now, made from movies, her perfume lines, advertisements, etc. She doesn't need the inheritance.

Actually, Carnegie Mellon was the first proponent of that style of raising rich kids - he didn't leave a dime to any of his, instead endowing universities, libraries, charities, etc. but it didn't matter 'cause his kids were all independently wealthy long before the old man kicked off.

Well, no one needs a billion bucks, but it's sure a nice thing to have if you can get it. I hear.

Do you mean Andrew Carnegie? Or is my history way off?

To be fair, Carnegie Mellon is exactly one of the universities you were talking about. It's also one of the top flight schools in the country for alot of things, due to the head start it got in its founding. It's also the reason just about every public library in Pittsburgh is a branch of the Carnegie Library. And why we've got a world famous paleonology department and fossil collection in the Carnegie Museum, which I happened to grow up loving (there is a stegosaurus named George in the Carnegie who was so named by me).
It should be also noted that the other part of the university name, Mellon (think Mellon Bank, which you'll see the name of on Pittsburgh's skyline as one of the big building complexes) was also another famous philantropist of the same stripe as Carnegie.
Even though he had some rather murky business policies and the Homestead Strike was a complete fiasco to which he was a party (along with Henry Clay Frick and indeed the steel worker strikers themselves), Carnegie was a reasonably stand up guy.

Hey, no worries. I'm surprised I remembered.
As I recall, he wrote The Gospel of Wealth in which he describes how to dispose of one's money. He basically said the only worthwhile and intelligent method of doing so is by leaving it ot charities and endowments.
Of course, all off the top of my head. I could be remembering wrongly.

Why should people give a damn whether or not Paris Hilton is short $1 billion? It's not like her actions have a major effect on the lives of hundreds, thousands, or millions of people, like George W. Bush or Robert Mugabe.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)

Well see the thing is Sidewinder, the major media outlets pay as much attention to the Stupid Spoiled whore as they do to George W.Bush, more in the case of Robert Mugabe. So yes we do give a damn, because perhaps, just perhaps without the "Rich" part of the Stupid Spoiled Whore, they might shut the fuck up about here and talk about the things that actual matter for awhile.
We can only hope.
