January 20, 2016, Master Strategy Memo

Countdown to a Meltdown by James Fallows

Fanciful detailed scenario about an economic collapse in 2009, written in July 2005. Thoughts about its prescience?

The political aspects seem loony. The Democrats winning the White House because Castro dies in October? Jimmy Carter mk. II being the candidate? He's succeeded by a black Catholic Republican general?

This is all just a leadup to me being elected president in the 2060s; and implementing Saint Curtis' policy on International relations...

Not too out there, I've noted before that Obama, whose candidacy I support, has many similarities to Carter.

It was an interesting read, and congealed a lot of the thought that was running around about trying to get Democrats elected (i.e., bringing out a religious figure to steal votes away). You can tell it's getting fairly dated, though; this was before the Democrats took Congress back (mostly).

I thought "The Preacher" was supposed to represent something along the lines of a more liberal Mike Huckabee.

Or a more expressively religious Edwards. Or maybe a more expressively liberal Obama, without the race issue involved.
