Does anyone know the present status of this idea...is there anything which makes it fail.
As well, what are opinions on it?

It's an archaeological theory that some of the first inhabitants of the North American continent came from the Iberian penninsula instead of the traditional location of Northern Mongolia (and then across Beringia). It doesn't necessarily state that there were no asiatic migrants.
The idea is based on very similar artifact assemblages in Iberia to those found on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States which are different from the prevailing assemblages from the Clovis culture and other asiatic populations elsewhere.
Typically, it was originally thought that the first real "culture" in the New World was the Clovis, which had asiatic origins. It's a bit tenuous from what I have read, and isn't supported by the bulk of archaeologists.

Edit: I also forgot to add that some achaeological digs in the region have found sites that are supposedly far older than the traditional Clovis sites, and the supporters think it is odd that the oldest sites would be on the Eastern Coast, because it's not consistent with the previous theory of migration along the west-coast or through the MacKenszie Corridor in Canada.
There are also some early skeletons from populations that aren't asiatic at all that predate the Clovis. Of course, it could be a mistake or a fluke.

That's what I thought as well. I was thinking some sort of Grand Unified theory of Soul, or something. Or something to do with Obama, but I figured it must have an actual explination because the spelling was amazingly mangled.Enola Straight wrote:Am I the only one who thought the title said "SoulTrain Hypothesis?"

Now that I thought of it, I was a bit confusing. The Iberian projectile points aren't entirely different from the Clovis. They are similar in some fundamental ways, such as being bifacial and I think having fluting (i'd have to check on that).
The problem was that there was no similar projectile point history found where the Clovis ancestors came from on the western coast or near northern Mongolia. They expected to find projectile points similar to those on the Eastern Coast, which were quite similar to the Clovis ones, but they didn't.
