The moment WALL-E gets hurt EVE-A will fly in and blast R2-D2.

Offensive capability:
WALL-E doesn't seem to have any offensive weaponry at all, or even anything that could function as it. Maybe the trash compacter, but R2 is too big to fit into it.
R2-D2 has the shock prod, the oil+rocket boosters, and who knows what else?
Durability:
WALL-E has been operating for over 700 years, with spare parts of course. I doubt the main chassis can be replaced though, which means that 700 years of wear hasn't impacted his body too much. He seems to be waterproof too, though runs and hides from dust storms. He can collapse down into a box for protection. And he's survived near-misses from EVE's BFG.
R2-D2 has gotten hit, multiple times, by starfighter-grade weapons. Enough said.
Mobility:
WALL-E has real treads instead of fake leg-tread things. He can drive very quickly, and has demonstrated extremely good reaction times and maneiverability.
R2-D2 is significantly slower on land, and as a result of having leg wheel things, is not as maneuverable over rough terrain. However, he can apparently fly for short distances using his rocket booster thingies.
Concensus:
Draw. R2-D2 cannot move fast enough to catch WALL-E, and WALL-E has nothing he can use to damage R2-D2, besides maybe ramming.

Oh yeah, that's right. The one he cut open that refrigerator with.
So, perhaps WALL-E eventually wins, using that torch to bit by bit slice R2 to death. Or he might go for the legs first, removing both ground and air movement abilities.

Wow, a lot would depend on the terrain. If it is rough terrain, then it's WALL-E easily. If it's a space ship interior, then I'd give it to R2, since he has the best chance of interfacing with the ship computer and using the ship's internal systems to box WALL-E in somewhere. WALL-E seems to have zero ability to interface with other computers/'bots at all.
Both are waterproof (R2 in Dagobah), WALL-E also survived multiple lightning strikes. Both are fine in hard vacuum (although R2 seems made to travel on a spaceship's surface, whereas WALL-E has to hang on). WALL-E is pretty tough, though, bear in mind that WALL-E not only survived outside a ship but but rode through liftoff on the outside, as well as hyperspace to get to the Axiom.
WALL-E has the cutting torch, which cut open the fridge door and also carved "WALL-E + EVE" in steel plating. That's a pretty high-grade laser, and it's quickly rechargeable. OTOH, R2 seems to have a much longer battery life.
If R2 can get WALL-E into a spaceship, it's R2's game due to his networking capabilities. If WALL-E can lure R2 into a junkyard, R2's going to end up getting compacted.
I'd prefer my fave robots just get along.

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!

WALL-E is solar powered. R2 requires a power source to recharge from.
WALL-E is pretty much maintenance free and anything he does need is an off the shelf, modular replacement. R2 needs a human to repair him.
WALL-E is at the very least lightning shielded. R2 can be shorted out with a blaster hit.
WALL-E's laser can cut through objects or moderate strength. R2 has an electrical tool/weapon that emits short range shocks.
WALL-E has EVE as back up. R2 has C-3PO.
WALL-E teaches other robots how to wave and be sooooo cute, R2 talks shit to other robots.
I'd say WALL-E wins.

I kind of think R2 will take this. I don't think WALL-E could really conceive of fighting, while R2 certainly can. If WALL-E had the idea to actually attack R2 with his laser, I'm sure he could take this no problem and carve R2 like a roast, but he doesn't really have the personality to shoot.

Really, neither one of them has the personality for it - R2D2 is more than a bit irascible, but he doesn't seem like the cold-blooded murder of another cute 'bot type. Yes, he attacked those SBDs, but that was self defense!Gil Hamilton wrote:I kind of think R2 will take this. I don't think WALL-E could really conceive of fighting, while R2 certainly can. Ceci n'est pas une signature.
R2 sprays stuff out that burns hot enough to take down Infantry Battle Droids built by a civilization with Star Wars technology (duh), that have displayed all of Wall-E's abilities (survival in vaccuum, take off, and I wouldn't be surprised if they could hang out in Hyperspace as a safety precaution), and was designed to stand up to Star Wars small weapons fire.
R2 has also gone offensive in the novels on multiple occasions. For example, he attacked the Ssi-ruuk that tried to capture Luke.
R2's known military style systems include; (see Wookiepedia)
Booster rockets
Cable gun
Oil injector
Claw arm
Fusion cutter
Periscope
Electric pike
Fire Extinguisher / Smoke Screen
Small Saw
Air Cannon
Lariat
Droid Deactivator
Charge Arm (electric shock)
Breakdance Mode (yes, it's from the Droids Cartoons, but still...)
Hose
Artoo also has practical military experience. He's still serving the Skywalker family during the Legacy era. Meaning he's bee in operation for over 160 years.
However...
Wall-E is insanely fast and manueverable, especially considering his age.
If Artoo gets the drop on Wall-E, odds are Wall-E's toast (or knowing R2, reprogrammed)
If Wall-E figures out Artoo is a threat and uses his laser, which has superior range to Artoo's fusion cutter, and possibly his Air cannon, R2 joins the skyline.

I love that thread.
I'd go with the "if WALL-E figures out that R2 is a threat" version.
R2's weapons are all too-close-range, and his "combat experience" is usually surviving in a combat environment, whereas this match is not about that.
The infantry battledroid was burned by the ignition of it's own fuel from R2's rockets, which is hardly a huge feat and requires extreme close range. WALL-E has shown pretty decent heat resistance actually, burying 1cm under a landing spaceship.
R2 does not have manipulators that can grab WALL-E's body and hold it (his battle droid encounter had the BD carrying him, making it easy to fight in close range). R2's manipulators also cannot pick-and-use heavier weapons, or tools (WALL-E can do that).
I'd give it to WALL-E.

Yeah, R2 is basically a little jackass. I don't see how anyone could really root for him here.

Indulge me, if you wouldn't mind, as it's been a while since I've seen SW - how is R2D2 a jackass? I can't remember many possible examples beyond a few remarks to C3PO and electric shocking the ewoks, so if someone could enlighten me, I'd appreciate it. The idea tickles me!Ender wrote:R2 is like the Eric Cartman of robots. He wins in most any scenario, but good lord is he a fucking jackass.

Eric Cartman really only wins in scenarios where the opponent is unwilling to up the ante. He's a scheming sociopathic asshole with a penchant for clever thinking, but he sucks in long term strategy, is borderline obsessive regarding certain things, and he just keels over and cries in actual physical confrontations.Ender wrote:R2 is like the Eric Cartman of robots. Similarly, I don't think R2's as big a jackass as Cartman. He's an ass at times, certainly, but it's more of the 'told you I could do it. Idiot' as opposed to the 'Only I matter' Cartman.
As for the OP, if Wall-E's cutting laser can strip R2, Wall-E wins, otherwise, I suspect R2's jets, prods, and tools let him force Wall-E to run or risk serious damage.
Did Wall-E use his laser on anything aside from the fridge?
And he used it to get himself out of his holding cell in the Robot Asylum Ward (man I loved that scene).
